Napoleon XIR4-1N gas insert. Does remote and receiver have to be syncronized every time you change batteries?.

most of the time no. but obviously if it doesnt communicate after you change them, you would need to. Make sure your connections are good and tight and no connections are touching the cabinet itself.

What color should the flame be on a propane fireplace insert---blue or yellow?

clean burn gas is a blue flame it is achieved by using the correct jet size for the gas in use and by adjusting the air shroud around the jet opening if you converted from natural gas to LPG and didn't change the jet size that is one reason next there is a tin type shroud around the jet area that can be moved back or forward over the big hole that lets air to mix with the gas at the jet the position of that shroud adjusts the air to gas ratio If you are not sure of what I am talking about , talk with a gas fitter or have them do the job

Heat and glo AT Grand soot builup on glass

If you see soot a few things can be wrong. If it's a F/p then the logs may be impinging on the flame and not aligned properly or you may not have enough air. The air adjustment is on the burner and you should open it a fraction more.

How do I get access

You will need to remove any metal trim surrounding the glass. It usually just slips/pop off.
Once that is off, the wing nuts and clamps will be exposed. There will probably be quite a few. All of them will need to be removed and set aside. Depending on what type of gasket material the manufacturer used between the glass and the metal firebox, will determine how easy it will be to remove. I hope for your sake, it's a rope gasket. If not, it will have a rubberized high temp gasket material, which may require a thin blade metal putty knife. It will be used to carefully get behind the glass and the rubberized gasket to help it release from the metal around the firebox. try to keep the gasket in one piece. If you can't it will have to be replaced.

Once the glass is loose, carefully lift it up and away from the fireplace. It's best to clean it on a flat surface (counter top, kitchen table, etc) that has a couple of layers of cotton bath towels for padding.

DO NOT use a commercial glass cleaner to clean the glass. As most have ammonia in them. A 50/50 solution of White Vinegar and water works best. Use a clean sponge to wipe the glass with the vinegar and water solution. Paper towels to dry it. Use only as little pressure as need to clean the glass, as you don't want to break it. If the glass has a heavy build up on the inside part of the glass, you can use a plastic mesh scouring pad to get this off. Then wipe again with the vinegar and water solution and dry it.

After everything is cleaned and dry, reinstall the glass in reverse order of how you removed it.

I hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a Napoleon GD

First, have you changed ALL of the batteries for the remote control? Not just the ones in the hand held remote.

If that is the case, you'll find a black box down in the lower louvered control compartment. That box is wired to the the control valve terminals. You will not be able to remove it from the fireplace, but there should be enough wiring to allow you to move it towards you.

Depending on who manufactured the remote, in most cases, if you turn the box over and look at the bottom, you can access the batteries (usually 4-AA Alkaline batteries) by sliding the cover back were indicated. If your model is a Skytech Remote, you may have to remove the front cover plate to slide the bottom off. Other manufacturers may have a slide out drawer. Simply push on the face of the door and it will pop out. In either case, be sure to look for any corrosion that the old batteries may have caused and clean it out. Also, note which way the batteries are facing, as you want to install the new ones the exact same way. Failure to do that, will cause the remote receiver not to work.

On the front of the receiver box, there should be a 2 or 3 position slide switch. All the way to the left is the OFF . The Middle Position is REMOTE and the Right position is ON. The ON position is a manual override that will light the burners, if the batteries are dead or the remote has failed.

Once you've replaced the batteries, be sure the slide switch is in the Remote position. If not, the hand held won't work.

If all of this fails, please contact me through the Comments Section and provide me with who the manufacturer is and the model number of the remote control unit.

Hope this helps you resolve the problem.

The pilot will only stay

It sounds like you need to replace the thermocouple. It will cause the symptons that you describe. If it is just a flame rod then you may be able to just clean it with steel wool. Let me know what you find.

Need to light the pilot light

I am not familiar with this particular brand. What type of heater is it? Normal pilot lighting is done by setting the gas valve to the "Pilot" position and then pushing on the valve to manually open the pilot. After this, light the pilot and continue holding the valve for 30sec to give the thermocouple a chance to heat up. Release the valve and it should stay lit. Turn the gas valve to "On" and you're done. If it doesn't stay lit after releasing the valve, replace the thermocouple. If it doesn't light at all, call a technician out to check gas pressure, orifice, and pilot assembly.

Can this unit be installed thru a wall with the sleeve/ box that comes with it? CW-XCI20AU

Obviously window and wall a/c units are not tradable, in spite of the fact that I don't have the subtleties of the distinction. Alter Window units are intended to exploit the way that a window is a flimsy segment; vents outwardly of the a/c case can be near within part of the a/c unit, yet be outside (where they must be). This might permit the window units to be less expensive. Interestingly, a wall can be 6" thick or more; wall units should have all vents near the rear of the unit. BTW I generally felt that the vents in the side of a window unit were for admission of air at encompassing temperature to then be coordinated through the condenser curl at the back plane of the unit to be depleted out the back (presently more sweltering than surrounding), however as a matter of fact a portion of the side vent region may likewise be utilized for ousting air which cools engines. It may be the case that in a window unit the venting on one side is committed to admission of air for the condenser loop and the venting on the opposite side is for exhaust. This would forestall the hot exhaust air being pulled in the admission for the condenser cooling air. Window ACs versus Through-the-Wall ACs It's not difficult to think about window and through wall ACs, since they're comparative in cooling limit and size, yet through-the-wall units will generally be somewhat more productive in light of the fact that they make an impermeable seal in the room. The significant contrasts between these ACs include establishment and venting. Window ACs fit through a window and don't need long-lasting establishment, while through wall ACs are really incorporated into the wall - making them well known in rooms without windows or for individuals who like to let their windows be. Wall forced air systems normally just vent warm air through the rear of the unit, while window ACs vent from the sides and back. Hence, window and through wall models are not exchangeable (regardless of whether they're a similar size). Generally speaking, in the event that a window unit vents out its side, the wall will obstruct the vents and cause overheating. Select window AC models can be introduced through a wall, however provided that they have a slide-out case wall sleeve. Peruse more on wall sleeves.
