Could this happen if you fill the bottom chamber over the pressure release valve so that the steam pressure built up and couldn't be released. Or perhaps the pressure release valve got blocked. Not sure. But it is important to take it off the stove promptly when you hear it make that gurgled hissing sound that indicates the top chamber is full and now steam is coming through rather than water.

When the water boils in the bottom chamber the steam creates pressure and pushes the water through the grounds and into the top chamber. It's hard to imagine that the water going through the grounds is not close to boiling temperature unless you are using the coffee maker at high altitude where the temperature of boiling water would be lower.

I would like to update you that if its only a screw that you are trying to purchase online, you will not be able to find a single one as only screws will not be considered as a proper accessorires/spare parts as they would be easily available at a nearby hardware store.

Please go to the nearest hardware store and you wil ge a screw that fits the machine.

They don't tell you this when you buy them, but I have been fighting these types of machines for the 9 years before I retired. One place had 2 machines and another has 6.
