'In this case I recommend that you have this looked at by a qualified AGA service tech.
The pilot light ignites but goes out when the button is released, I have held it down for over a minute, can you help
The pilot light works with a safety cut out device should the flame ever get blown out. The device cuts the gas supply to stop accidents. If you look where the pilot light burns you will see a small metal looking tip in the flame, this is the device. It is full of liquid:that expands when the flame keeps it hot. The other end applies pressure on the cut out switch. The liquid within can fail. It is very easy to follow the tube to the cutout switch, unscrew the whole tube assembly and take to a hardware store for a cheap replqcement that you screw back in. Any excess tube carefully wind up in a coil, do not bend sharply as liquid will excape (liquid usually oil based) Once refitted ignite per instructions for your device. Happy fixing.
