Hi, your suggestion is good. Also consider an overbuild up of frost which the autodefrost can't cope with. I don't know what to suggest you do about it apart from minimising the moisture content of the food that you put into it.
Just seen your post regarding replacing the control unit yourself. I think that it's feasible if you have a reasonable amount of experience. However, the final decision is yours, I cannot suggest that this is something that you should do.

The Flashing #4 occurs when power is applied to the fridge and the control board goes through it's cycles and didn't detect a damper connection.
So its your air damper that's bad.

Here is the part to order.

Go to the link below and determine which of these 3 models you have:
Sears PartsDirect
Choosing the right model and diagram, you may be able to determine whether you will need a tech to do any replacements. On most listed models, you can order parts shipped to home, often at a lesser price than dealers will charge. The value of simple electronics assemblies is almost always in the low-double digits; under $100.
I suspect the second tech is correct with his guess that the control board is defective. Unfortunately, this may be a recurring problem. Our appliances have become more complex and less reliable.

sounds stupid but i would just unplug unit and do a complete defrost/dry out/clean,then leave for a week on full cold.to see if any other problems exist.....also check door seals for air tightness .

There are a number of reasons why this might be happening. You bets bet if to call a service guy out and let them take a look at it as some things require specialised equipment to troubleshoot.

The only access to the drain tube is from the inside which would mean removing the inner cabinet or liner - completely impractical and probably a waste of time as a collapsed drain tube is likely to be a sign the insulation is failing.

I expect you will find there will be at least one cold spot on the outer cabinet. A friend had the same trouble. In her case the top at the back was the worst offender and we extended the life by placing a 4" polystyrene block on the top. She mopped out the fridge daily.

I find a curtain wire is the most suitable for poking around in fridge drains.
