HAAA!!!
Me, too!! I just got the same code. I actually took off all the stuff
to clean it (glad I did too because after a whole week of sewing on it
straight, it was hella filthy!), I still couldn't get it to work. The
answer is in the Singer FAQ website (http://www.singerco.com/support/frequently-asked-questions).
Your button hole lever has been bumped. It is just to the left of the
the needle bar. I just pulled mine all the way down, then pushed it all
the way back up. No more E7!!!! Color me happy for sure!
Which stitch are you using? As far as I can tell, the Stylist 7258 only allows you to change the needle position for straight stitches. If the machine is set to Pattern 00, press the right or left buttons from the 4 arrow keys in the manual setting arrows until the needle is in the desired position.
For all other stitches, the left/right arrows adjust the stitch width. This is described on page 30 (in English) of the manual. You can download the manual from the product page under the support tab: http://www.singerco.com/products/2101/7258-stylist#type-support . The direct link to the manual is http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/4951b452e963a8fe1dd1fd83fbac68a35df8cf19.pdf .
I hope this helps.

the needle position is up tight in the holder and no where else
the cut away bit of the needle faces the bobbin case hook and the groove in the needle faces the end of the machine and gives clearance for the thread to pass through the material
from your description and what you did, the needle /hook timing needs adjusting as it is out
turn the machine over by hand as in sewing and watch the position of the eye of the needle and the bobbin case hook
just as the needle starts to move up, the hook should be just above the eye of the needle at the edge of the needle
The adjustment is by loosing off the screw on the vertical shaft at the end of the machine that is attached to an arm that moves the needle up and down and move that bit up or down until the needle is positioned correctly to the hook
tighten up the screw
next is to check the needle tension is not too tight
workshop manuals are available on line in pdf version or take it to a sewing machine repair shop for a proper diagnosis
No I don't think it will. That attachment is for a 'Slant Shank' machine like a 301.
The K on the Sewing machine model number simply means it was built in Scotland. That means it is basically the same as most other 201's.
Question edited for clarity.
Do you mean the embroidery unit. If it is secondhand and has been stored for a long time, sewing machine oil, or worse WD40 goes 'gummy'. You would need to clean all the out. WD40 is a good solvent, so spray, leave it to soak, spray again and agitate with a brush. The wash it all off with hot soapy water. Dry thoroughly and after a few days, lubricate metal parts with sewing machine oil and any plastic parts with a dry silicone spray like Jigaloo. Test Jigaloo on a flat piece of plastic first as it is also a powerful fast drying solvent.
In the event that your Vocalist Quantum Beautician 9980 isn't playing out the needle change and won't sew, there could be a few issues. To begin with, guarantee the machine is strung accurately, and the bobbin is appropriately embedded. Check in the event that the needle is embedded accurately and not harmed. On the off chance that the issue continues, counsel the client manual for investigating tips or consider reaching Artist client assistance for additional help.
Lois, all questions need full 'make model (what it is) please. Futura is a range of models so ''Singer Futura' isn't specific enough. Add the model number after the word 'Futura' and press enter.. You can also look for the Service Manual. There is one in the link, but no Error 20.

DON'T cut lumps out of your machine. There will be a sequence you use to remove the parts you need to access to the gears more easily. The Youtuber you referred to sounds like they have zero knowledge when it comes to these older style machines.
'Note' Some of the gear mount nuts are on a "Reverse" thread meaning you turn them the 'wrong' way to get them off.
My limited knowledge is more on the much older hand crank and treadle machines.
Try the Youtube link below for a channel called 'Andy Tube'. He has a good reputation for correct repair methods. The link is for a 758 but they're both Touch and Sew machines.
You could also try the Facebook group 'Vintage Singer Sewing Machines' as they have loads of knowledge about loads of different machines.
