The PlayStation Network is down at the moment. Sony Entertainment is working on this. There is nothing wrong with your system.
From the PSN - "While we are investigating the cause of the Network outage, we wanted to alert you that it may be a full day or two before we're able to get the service completely back up and running. Thank you very much for your patience while we work to resolve this matter."

Have an error code 80710a06.wont

Hi,

You are not the first to complain about this today. This is a general problem at the moment......

The error is a network/server error.

Usually, when PSN server is down, it makes this type of error to occur. I believe they are working on the servers.

There is no easy fix to this, you just have to wait for an unknown amount of time till the network server comes back again.

You can reset your network and try again. Or If you have a friend that uses PS, check if that of your friend has this same error.......

Regards.

First you should back up any important data onto an external hard drive, or transfer your data to another PS3 via the transfer function. Both options are available through the PS3 settings tab of the XMB.

After all the data you wish to keep is safe, then reformat the PS3`s hard drive via the reformat function also found in the PS3 settings tab of the XMB.

Go to settings, system settings, reformat utility, and follow the on screen prompts.

If this is successful then restore the backed up data onto the PS3.

If this doesnt work you may want to consider a Blu-ray cleaning disc such as this:

How to fix black screen of death

The Black Screen of Death is probably just your tv/projector not getting an image from the PS3 console.

Obviously, first make sure the PS3 and television/projector are actually on.

You should then make sure all cords are firmly attached to the PS3 and you television.

If the cables are snugly in place and you still have the issue, you should make sure the PS3 is outputting the correct video. To do this, power off your system, then press the power button to turn it on, but keep it held down for a couple of seconds. It should beep and your video settings will be reset.

Still nothing? Make sure the cables are working. Swap them out with cables you know that work, or test the cables in question on something else (another PS3 or old PS2 for the regular cable, anything that has HDMI out for the HDMI cable).

Really? You still have the issue? Okay, maybe the problem is more serious than previous thought. You might have to send it in to Sony, which can be done here. They take forever to send it back though, and if you're out of warranty it costs $150 (it's free if you're under warranty though!).

Alternatively, if you're awesome and feeling adventurous, you can fix it yourself. Here's a guide, and more can be found online.

Regardless, hope everything works out!

We have a playstation 3.it

Hi MsElle,

Sadly it sounds like your system is overheating and shutting down as a precaution. Make sure your system is getting as much ventilation as possible. If your system has been getting enough ventilation it would indicate that something is causing the cooling system of the console to malfunction. It's probably saveable but i would suggest you stop using it and contacting tech support immediately.

Hope this helped,

I have a 80 GB

When replacing a hard drive in a PS3, the easiest way to transfer your game data from one drive to another is to use a USB Flash drive. If you are only concerned with the save game data, you can plug it in while using the hard drive that has your save files, go to Game on the XMB, then Game Saves, and select the save data you wish to copy. Press triangle and select copy. This method doesn't work for all games though, because some games will "lock" your save data but there is a way around this.

Instead of manually copying your save files, you can backup your data to the flash drive under the Settings on the XMB, then go down to System Settings > Backup Utility. This will try to backup everything on your PS3, so it is best to have manually transferred as many of the other types of files (music, pictures, videos) off the first hard drive as possible. This means more space will be available for Game saves and Game Data. If you aren't too concerned with reinstalling game data on the new drive, i would suggest deleting these from the first hard drive as well, as they take up much more space and make the back-up process take considerably longer.

Once the Backup Utility finishes, you may swap in the new hard drive and restore the data from your flash drive. Restore is in the Backup Utility menu.

Playstation3 - can I buy a replacement hard drive

Hi mcconn2002,

Most PC Hard drives will work on your PS3 but they have to be formatted to FAT32 and installing them is actually quite easy. Check your instructions manual for a clear and visual guide in how to do so.

Hope this helped!

Unfortunately you have what is referred to the red light of death (RLOD). There are many causes of it and one of them is a bad motherboard. You have very limited options at this point, if Sony can't or won't fix it, you can try a local or online repair shop and you might have some luck.
This problem is common with the launch 60GB consoles and actually I had the same problem recently. I tried a local shop and it came back still broken. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do at this point other than a repair shop, but you will most likely just be throwing your money away since they probably won't be able to fix it. Many repair shops will claim they can fix it (and in some cases they can) but it is a gamble to try and the fixes usual are just temporary.
