Olympus FE-340 Digital Camera Questions & Answers
Why is line flashing on monitor?
If the pictures have lines or marks in them when loaded up on a computer screen then it's a fault with the image sensor inside the camera, if they do not then it's a fault with the lcd screen on the camera, either way it's not an easy fix and will probably cost more than a new camera
Lens won't open when turned on.
Sounds like a fault with the lens mechanism, would need to be serviced by Olympus but will most likely cost more than camera is worth
Why does the screen stay black when turned on?
One thing to try is take battery out, clean the contacts and check battery compartment and make sure the is inserted back in correctly. Inspect the USB port, it may have the pins touching each other. The USB will deactivate the screen when you connect to computer or TV. Inspect the screen for cracks or discoloration, you will need to replace the lcd screen if you notice this.
When turned on screen is black but you can view menu and stored pictures
Since you can see the menus, did you try to go to the setup menu, and adjust the brightness of the screen?
It is in the setup menu, the line under Sound settings. Try to make the display brighter and don't forget to ok that one, because otherwise nothing will be changed. OK with the ok / Func button.
When turning the camera on the lens keeps opening and closing then freezing midway, can't take any photos.
check if you can find any obstruction, that blocks the free movement of the lens barrel. If nothing is visible on the outside, perhaps something inside went wrong. (broken gear?)
As long as the camera finds the lens barrel does not go out to the end position, it will try to get the lens in and switch off.
Also try to charge the battery, because an almost empty battery, can do the same. Although after a few times the camera will not start at all.
When i turn on my camera itshows write protected.
Hi, it's one of two things--if you accidentally 'protected' your files (look for a small key symbol when you view the files), then you can undo this in the playback menu or look at the SD card-on the left there is a little tab, slide it upwards, this will unlock your card. Hope this helps.
Failed to transfer the images
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa (
http://picasa.google.com ).
Sensor problem what is the cost to fix
Given the age of the camera (it's at least three generations old), it will almost certainly cost more to fix it than to replace it with a current, more capable camera. The actual cost will depend on how much your local shop charges for labor and the availability of parts for a camera nearly five years old.
Remove write protect from camera
Look at your memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.
My olympus camera fe-340 showing black screen when
If your menus work and you have no picture in recording mode, either movie or single, then your possible problem is that the CCD sensor has a problem.See if it is still coverd by the manufacture, if not sell it for parts on Ebay or some such website.
