Dell XPS M1730 Laptop Questions & Answers
I have a dell m1730 laptop. I turned it off last
Have you tried going to the BIOS? If you can see the BIOS screen there's video and the hard drive could be the issue. If you can't see anything but black screen you probably need to replace screen and or video invertor board.

How to reboot from boot sequence
Click the power button and watch the screen to see which key it says to
press to get into the Bios or System Setup. Change the boot order or
boot sequence. You want to boot from the cd drive 1st and
the hard drive 2nd. This will change it permanently. Then reboot. There
might also be an option to change it temporarily when you boot the
system. Just watch the screen and see if it shows you which key to
press to change the boot order or boot sequence. It is only effective
for this one boot.
Power adaptor type cant be deturmed
A very good way
to do this is to compare your laptop voltage & ampere requirements
(written on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) with the voltage
& ampere ratings of the power adapter. Voltages should be the same,
or the power adapter's voltage about up to 0.5 volts more than the
laptop's voltage rating. Amperage of the power adapter should be at
least equal to or greater than the laptop's rating. It should never be
less than the laptop's rating.
How do I remove th Battery on the DellXPS M1730
Hello,
On the bottom of the laptop you will locate the battery compartment. There should be a release latch which will allow you easy access and removal of the laptop battery. Before you remove the battery, make sure you have the system powered off. I found a
owners manual in pdf format so that you can save it to your computer. This manual will provide you with additional information for any future problems or questions you may have about your system.
I hope this helps resolve any issue you may be having locating the battery. If you need further assistance, please feel free to ask.
If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You
The ac power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined .
There are at least four possible causes for this error - (error 3600-0749, right?).
First one: the adapter is faulty. You would need a tester to determine whether the adapter is indeed supplying power. Dell will send you a replacement adapter if the warranty is still good, or you can find one online (model PA-19 PN402, 230W).
Second: one of the DC jack solder points on the motherboard cracked. You may see the error disappear by "wiggling" delicately the jack in the notebook. You either need to call Dell tech support and have the MB replaced for free (if under warranty), at cost - in excess of EUR 400 - or the jack may be resoldered, which will void the warranty and requires experience in disassembling and reassembling the laptop.
Third: motherboard is otherwise damaged (voltage regulators, buffers, and so on). Diagnostics must be performed by a Dell technician; replacement policy as above.
Fourth: you may have problems with the BIOS (if it is a brand new unit), solvable by upgrading - Dell will suggest this avenue first if you call tech support, anyway, so check you've got up-to-date BIOS and drivers.
Cannot get wifi working
If your laptop has internet access through a cable, you can go to Dell's website, go to Support, and then enter your service tag information. It will provide you with the drivers and software to get your wireless card and your bluetooth module working again. Just download the files from the support website and run them and follow the instructions.
My screen stays black when i boot up
indeed the problem is if you want to access the warranty or not...anyway ...they probably do not replace it but in case the mother board is gone...which I believe is not the case....
in your case the modt possible thing is the Ram memory ...from an fatal error or something the pc stopped the boot proces and cause it didnt see the Ram memory it does nothing ...but probably beeps or ...makes a click sound every few seconds...like a loop repet in a try to boot up....
if you decide that you want to do something ..the thing to do is to remove the Ram memory ...fix it back on fermly ...remove the bios battery and after that try to reboot...you have 80% chances to work ....and have nothing really ...also after that you need to reinstall th eOS to eliminate the problem that cause this in the first place ...
If you want to go to the seller and claim the warranty ..remember that it will be a long process in which you will have to present a untouched product ..used in according with he specifications,, and they will take the time ...send it to the supplier ..( producer)..verify it ...and it will fix it if they can and if there is no fault of yours ...or they will replace it if there is not from your miss use or so...but it will take a few month and you are at their mercy ...time that you will not have either computer ..or knowladge about whats going on ....
I just presented you the facts ..my intention is to get you into knowledge and not discourage ya ...
even if it takes time ...the best is to procede with the warranty ...but if you decided not to ...you can follow my advice ...
( to be sure that there is not something else ...when you decide to open it , check each hardware piece one by one to eliminate the faulty one ...but ...as I mentioned when the boot do not list any of the devices..is because it does not see the Ram memory ..and can not proceed with the rest ....identifying the Ram mem is the first thing that any pc does on boot...
My DVD will not eject from my computer
If pressing the eject button wont open the dvd tray, then try to look for the tiny hole in the tray's front door and push a paper clip in it whilst the laptop is turned on. That should manually eject the dvd tray.
Hope this helps.
