Burning Hot and Burning propane tank empty in 2 to 3 uses

What does "and parts to burners" mean? it sounds like you have NG orifices on a LP appliance or the LP orifices are not properly drilled. I use my barbecue several times a week and exchange an LP cylinder about every 6 months. If you are using the grill twice and the cylinder is empty that is not a lot of burning, that is a leak. to adjust the burner the first and most obvious place to look is to check the pressure on the regulator (LP is 11") and the orifices. Next are there adjustment screws inside the valve stems? if so light the barbecue so the flames are visible and insert a long flat-head screwdriver to adjust the set screw inside the valve stem. turn the valve to "low" and adjust it until the flames are just barely staying on. Leave the set screw in that position and turn the valve on high, close the lid. if you're over 400 degrees in 10 minutes you'll be fine. if not adjust the set screw up a quarter turn at a time.

Wanting to fit a gas cyclinder into the space for it in a sundowner bbq there is a long threaded piece with a wing nut attached in the space where the cyclinder sits any solutions would be great

Not sure what your problem is but that long threaded rod is to help hold your tank in place. loosen the wing nut and back the screw up. place your tank in the hole and tighten the screw up to the tank. hope this helps
