Most models have a screen under the machine or behind one of the clear covers on the front. If the screen is clogged it will restrict the airflow.
Make sure the brushes will spin freely by hand.

My clean solution tank is leaking from the bottom, too. It is not a hose or a valve. The clean solution tank is leaking in-between the clear plastic walls of the solution tank & the grey plastic bottom that are connected, together. I was thinking of caulking it all around the bottom where the clear plastic sides join the grey bottom plastic. I can't get into ordering a new one (spending $) unless Hoover will send me a new one for free. Purchased at Kohl's in Massapequa, NY in June 2008. There's a one year warrantee AND the directions say to EMPTY the solution tank after each use. Which I normally do because the tank runs dry.

Something may have jammed the brush roller, preventing rotation. This causes the motor shaft to rotate in one spot on the belt, causing the burning rubber smell. Eventually, the belt will break. You need to find what caused the jam and remove it. It would be a good idea to replace the belt as a burned belt is unlikely to last much longer.

Hi! To switch from tools back to floor you only need to disassemble the hose from the cleaner. Be sure to close the circular hose port on the nozzle. Hope this helps!

Hi there. The spring on the clean water tank cannot be replaced. A replacement tank would be needed. Follow the link to order a replacement clean water tank for your cleaner. Search Results
The clean water tank does not include the handle but your original handle will fit the replacement tank as well. Hope this was helpful!

on the front hood there is a round port connection to open and then insert and turn to lock in the suction hose. On the side there is another connection for the solution hose.

  • There a twist lever on the side to change from floor to tools. If "everything else works" then you have it on tools. Twist it back to floor and it will work.

Hi, it's Allie from Crucial Vacuum!

Cleaning the brushes on your unit is crucial in maintaining your Hoover performing at it's best and it is very easy to do. First, make sure your unit is off and unplugged, and make sure to remove the clean and dirty water tanks to avoid any possible leaking.

With the handle in the upright position, tilt the unit back and rest it on the floor. Grad the brush assembly and pull firmly until you remove them from the unit. Clean the brushes with running water until the water runs clear and the brushes are clean.

Hi, it's Allie from Crucial Vacuum!

Cleaning the brushes on your unit is a very easy and important tank to do! Your deep cleaner is equipped with removable brushes for easy cleaning. First, make sure to remove the clean water tank and recovery tank to prevent possible leaking. Tilt your unit backwards making sure the handle is in the upright position. Grab the brushes and pull firmly. You may clean the brushes with running water. Do not forget to check the brushes for any tangled hair strands or debris that can prevent the brushes from spinning properly.

Check for broken belts, or belts that have been thrown off the pullys.
I use the websites that sell parts to see what is inside stuff, and download the users (owners) manual and read it.
Try Sears Parts Direct or the Parts Store (Google those names) for diagrams to see what belts or whatever it uses. If you can't understand the diagrams, find almost any 10-year-old. They seem to be incredibly clever, but then they have nothing else to do except try and figure stuff out.
