Dc5700 won't connect usb mouse and keyboard after disconnect
why run dead XP?, is the PC ONLINE? or off/?
The USB plug and play is failing,
you do know MS killed dead Plug and Play for XP 4 years ago right?
the top failure of any pc running XP would be USB devices.
USB devices are extensive in scope, endless types
and top of the list are mice, and keyboards.(vast types exist))
The PnP engine scans the local driver cache first.
if no mouse (example 1) is found to match your unstated mouse
then it must do what? go on line, to MS.com
and MS pulled the plug..... just like they did

time to upgrade, for sure.
a counter argument would be that the virus magnet XP is infected.
as ALL ARE NOW and worse every day forward!! for eternity

What why how when
I actually had to track part of your posting to discover what you were talking about. The software you were attempting to use appears to have tried to change your screen resolution to something beyond the range of settings of your monitor. You accessed online chat help and were informed to adjust your monitor resolution to different settings. Subsequently, you have found yourself staring at a white screen and unable to see dialogue boxes. The software you appear to have been trying to use was Yahoo Messenger and Paltalk.
It would be nice to know what the original monitor settings were. In fact, you should always post the monitor brand and model number with questions such as this. It would also be nice to know what operating system you were using.
Your monitor may have an auto button (short for auto configuration). Pressing that might restore the default settings. If you can take a look at the monitor's manual, usually accessable by going to the brand site and searching for the model number, you might find relevant instructions regarding any such button.
If you can't fix the monitor configuration via the buttons on the monitor, you may have to resort to a system restore to a date prior to the original error message of "out of range" appearing. That may remove any problematic software that you installed that yielded the original problem. Write down the display settings (the resolution) before trying run anything that might yield an out of range message again. I can't say at this point if you need to go into "safe mode" on boot or not. There is a wee possibility that just going into safe mode and then rebooting might yield you a readable screen. You would then have to change the resolution of one you are comfortable with.
We have an HP Compaq DC5100 which is just for old
no easy way :(1 choice -
http://www.icompute.info/System_restore_from_xp_cd.htmtry to do system restore from repair console2 choice -reinstall windows over the old one.this will require correct drivers & reinstall of all software. To avoid loss of documents - don't format & don't use same users names as last install or put in new hard drive and make old hard drive as secondary.both choices you need to get into the bios to change the boot order so cd boot first to get into the windows cd if it is'nt set yet
I can not connect to
Given its age, it probably does not support modern WiFi security.
It was made way back before WEP was hacked.
Now anyone who wants a secure WiFi network is using WPA2.
Change the WiFi access point to WEP encryption and try to connect.

you need to reload the sound drivers, its not the speakers, but lets check just to be sure.
check the power adaptor going to the wall outlet and speakers (are the speaker powered and light on when you turn them on and are they connected to the computer, ime sure you've checked this already.
now lets see what your computer says: this is for windows XP, let me know if your running another operating system.
follow me---
1. click START
2. click SETTINGS
3. click CONTROLL PANEL
4.double click on SYSTEM
5. click the HARDWARE tab at the top
6. click the DEVICE MANAGER button
this will show you a list of all the hardware in your computer and the if one of these listings has a yellow exclamation point or question mark next to it, it is not working properly.
what you are looking for specifically is one called "sound , video and game controllers" OR a sound card that is listed under unknown device. this shows that the wrong driver is present or has been installed incorrectly.
post your findings here and your model of video card from the settings section you were just in. if you have a box the video card came with , give me the info from it.

Printer stuck on pause
Look at the bottom right near the time and click on the icon that is for the printer. Open it and delete everything out of the print queue. You can also get to the queue by clicking Start/Control Panel and look for Printers. Open it and select your printer by clicking on it and the print queue will be shown. It sounds like you might have more than one instance of the same printer installed and you printed to the wrong printer. One one printer can be online or active it you have two or more using the same connection type.Click Start/Control Panel and look for Printers. Open it and see if you have more than one of the same printer. If so Right Click on one of them and select Delete.
