I recommend you use a program called internet download manager you can download videos and music. You can download from youtube or any other site. It grabs the files from the websites and it even splits it up in parts so you can download faster.

I loved my Pearl but I misused it in a way that destroyed the SW inside. Study the user manual closely.

I'm going to ask an obvious question- did you put the batteries in the right way (+ and - to right sides)?

The replacement batteries could have been installed incorrectly.

I haven't seen the exceeded usable memory message on mine, but I am familiar with Pearls not coming back on.

First, perform a reset buy removing the battery for at least 10s. Sometimes mine just shows the plain pearl logo (not the moving one) and then shuts off. Removing the battery for a while and then putting it back in always fixes it so that it shows the plain pearl logo for few seconds then displays the animated logo and starts normally.

If this fix doesn't work for you, then the firmware inside the Pearl is most likely corrupted, and can be easily fixed by running this software from the RCA website and following these steps:

  1. start the program,
  2. remove the battery from the TH1102 & wait at least 10 secs,
  3. hold the play button while plugging into usb,
  4. release the play button the the term "initalizing" replaces "searching",
  5. click the start button to replace the firmware.
Hope that helps.

My RCA Pearl gave me the AAC firmware message with some files until I followed all the troubleshooting instructions that popup when running the firmware update software. The firmware with AAC upgrade is here.

Follow these instructions and it will work:

run the firmware update software software,
reset the player by removing the battery or holding the power button for 10s for players with internal batteries,
hold the play button while inserting the unit into usb,
release the button once the software changes from "searching" to "initalizing",
check the box to format the data on the player,
and click start.

When I did this update without formatting, the aac fix did not work. I

Go to here: http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads/?sku=TH1702 and download either of the Firmware Updates/Restore Utility and run it on your PC while your 1702 is connected via USB.

Mine wouldn't connect and would tell me it was too full (even though I had plenty of space) and would shut down. I ran this utility, and it reinstalled the firmware and formatted the device, now it works perfectly.

If the set does not play then powering alone will not solve the issue as the processor is faulty. check and see if a reset can solve, if not the player must be connected to a PC and checked for error files/corrupt files , which must be removed formatted and re-installed.

Please install the driver for the media conversion in your PC and then convert the media files to be loaded to the player and then transferred.
It is important that you uninstall the driver if this was loaded and then reinstall with the convertor driver for the player from the RCA official website.

Hi mikepacifico,
Good day to you! To set up your mp3 player to your TV, match the wires to the same colored ports on your TV. Yellow is for video while Red is for audio. Set your TV to "AV/Video" and then turn your mp3 player on. You should be able to see the menu program set for your player and make your selection. Hope this helped!

With most media software for the program to transfer songs to your MP3. Most likely you would not be able to tranfer songs to your Pearl because Real Player does not have the support for your player. Also note if the files are in the Real Player format they will not transfer. Most players only support MP3 or WAV files.

However most MP3 players use a standard transfer option in Windows to transfer the files to the player. The link below will show you how to do this.
