The error message is telling you that the recovery utility was not able to read the data from the disc correctly, or wasn't able to write it to the hard drive. The problem could be with the disc, the CD/DVD drive or the hard drive.

First, try copying the second disc using another system. If you can't copy it, order replacements from Toshiba Customer Assistance: 1-800-457-7777. If you can copy it, try using the copy to do the restore.
You can try using a third party disk checker to verify the problem is or is not with the hard drive. But since the system is under warranty, you're going to have to arrange to have it repaired anyhow, so it may not be worth the effort to verify whether it's the hard drive or CD/DVD drive. It's probably not the CD/DVD drive since you got all the way through the first disc. Contact a Premier (not regular) ASP for service from here: http://pcrepair.toshiba.com



The best way would be to load the Win Vista discs n format the pc...and reinstall...iam telling this because u have a tried the recovery disk as well....

I know most users will not have the Vista CD with you but the Vista Recovery Boot Cd is available free by Microsoft just google...

Download it burn the Image .iso and run that disc. Since that disc will not restore the OS all it does it lets u run diagnostics on ur HDD and allows u to install the OS. Once disk check is completed and repaired, proceed with the Recovery disks that you have.

Can't be changed on a notebook, this is a security feature to prevent someone stealing your notebook and using it. You'll have to send it to toshiba or a shop that can change it.

May i ask what the problem is as you have not said!!

If it is with the driver, no wireless connection, etc then please could you do to my computer, right click properties, then click device manager. In device manager click networking devices and then right click on the Atheros wireless device to uninstall it.

After it has been uninstalled can you download this updated driver and then restart your laptop.

It should when rebooted come up with found new hardware (the wireless controller). This link will take you to the toshiba downloads http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads. The first download for wireless Atheros is the most recent (06/09).

Can you get into your computer at all?

If you can please could you do this, go to command promt, this is usually in all programs/accessories. And then type in chkdsk c:/f, hit enter.

uneseat and reseat memory once stick at a time in each slot one at a time. Turn on the computer after each stick reinsertion and see if you can get video. If you get video, try to go into the BIOS. If you can then its a matter of reinstalling windows. If you can't get into the BIOS and it locks, try a different known good working hard drive and if that works then go ahead and restore your system back to factory defaults.


If your gettting intermittent video no matter what you do then your motherboard is bad and would have to be replaced.

Sometimes, It happens that computer goes into sleep mode and never comes back.

1. Update all the drives to latest version.
2. Also check the computer with no power saving options and see if the problem recurs

Replacing your fan will void your warranty.

I would advise talking to toshiba for a replacement.

If still you want to replace ir, you have to disassemble the whole laptop to replace the fan, all you have to do once disassembled is unplug the original one and plug the replacement one, but you have to use only compatible ones, or else you will burn your cpu or the fan wont fit.

For a quick resolution, buy a powerfol laptop cooler.

when you are on limewire, at the top of the page you should see a search button, click it. then you type in the song that you want once you find it click download. when you click it shold pop up at the bottom of the page and it should say the song that you are downloadind and the percent that is done downloading. when it says 100% downloaded then you should see a button that says clear inactive, click it then go back up to the top of the screen and you should see a button that says "library" click it and you should find you song that you downloaded in the library!!!

try pushing esc as much as needed to bypass it. Than make a new user account and switch the settings.

in the cases of solving a problem leads to a totally different problem its usually some user error ;)

try to turn off the computer, remove the powercable and battery for a few minutes.

reinsert the battery and try to boot again.

One quick and easy fix you can do is to go get a can of compressed air and blow out the vents and fan area under the notebook. Sometime when there is a lot of dust in them they overheat pretty quickly and shut off. Just like you said happens.

You can use the ISO to burn a boot CD. Follow these instructions:
1. Download ISO file from http://www.windowspasswordsrecovery.com Windows Password Recovery Tool
2. Burn to a CD using a CD burning tool such as Nero or Roxio or MagicISO
3. Insert CD into drive and reboot.
4. You may have to select an option in the BIOS to get the computer to boot from the CD.
Booting up and clearing a password takes a minute or two works like a charm.
