Error on screen 5100 color light &

I just went through this. My problem was that I had something obstructing my print cartridge. I took the back off with 3 screws, then the side panel (on the cartridge side). this was real easy, take the trim off and there is one screw, then find the little arrows that show where the tabs are that slide into the side of the printer itself. I used a flat head screw driver to unsnap them. Once open, I tipped my printer side ways and saw the object in there. Put it back together and now it works.
But the problem you are having could just be as simple as a loose cartridge. Take the cartridges out and put them back in making sure they snap in.

Good Luck!!

Regards,
Ron

I cannot get my cannon to scan a photograph from

First - verify that you have installed the printers software on your computer before connecting it to your pc? If you have not installed the printers software, or do not have the disk to do so - go to Cannons website and download it to your pc. www.cannon.com. Click on support, then find download drivers/software and enter your make and model of your printer. Follow the prompts to download and then install it.

How do you know if you have or do not have the software already installed? You should be able to find the cannon software for your printer on your desktop. look for the icon.

Once you have the software installed, there are two ways to scan something to your computer.

You can scan from the printer to the pc. Or you can scan from the pc to the printer. What does that mean? It means you can use the printers keypad and send the image to the pc. Or you can open the software in the computer and request the image from the printer. You either send or request but the end result is the same.

The easiest way is to use the software in the computer. Double click on the cannon software on your desktop. Find the "scan" option and click on it. Make sure your printer is turned on and connect and click "ok" to start the scan. The picture will appear on your screen. You can adjust it when its finished.

If you want to try and scan using the keyboard on the printer. press the scan button. The printers display will say "searching for applications" and there will be a delay until it is finished. The printer is searching for compatible applications to send the image to. The choices are usually microsoft word, Adobe pdf, internet explorer followed by any graphic or image software you have installed that the printer recognizes and the cannons default software. When its done downloading the applications, you have the ability to choose which one you want to send your image to. Press the "send to and pick the application you want to use" on the printers display. Then press "enter" or "ok" and the image will be sent to that program and appear on your computer screen.

My printer will not accept a recycled color ink

It's because there is small chip on each cartridge, and when there is no more ink, printer will write into that chip information about empty cartridge. So, you can't use that cartridge any more. Solution is to change the chip with new one, or to get brand new cartridge.

I have my printer connected

To scan an image in Windows Vista, do the following:
Go to Start > All Programs > Windows photo Gallery > Select the File Tab and select Import from Camera or Scanner.
It's a bit slow starting...but it will scan for you.

If you are still experiencing problems then download the latest drivers from canon here for your printer/scanner:

My canon pixma MP470 printer

Hi

Please inspect again for paper jam located inro the paper tray, in the ink cartridge compartment and rear door of the printer (back door of the printer). If you find the paper jammed, it solves you problem and try to print again.

If not, just open the cartridge door, turn off the printer and move the cartridge using your hand the ink cartridge to the left going to the right and then right to left for 2 times. Then try to print again, also jammed message errror is related to stuck up cartridge.

How to replace ink absorber pads

The easiest way to do this is to take it into Best Buy, or a computer shop, and they can easily show you. Otherwise, you will stand a chance of breaking some plastic retainer, or support piece, and ruining the unit.
It's not a clean or easy thing to do on some printers, so getting help from someone who knows is the wisest course to take.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

The paper isn't feeding properly.

You may have paper from Paper jams stuck in the printer. Lift the access cover and check for loose paper.

85% of paper jams are caused by worn rollers . The rubber treads in the rollers wears down, making them smooth, so they won't pick up the paper. Sometimes, they are aged, which also gives them a smoother rounded texture, causing jams. The quick fix is to liven up that roller with a mixture of alcohol and soap. Damp a rag with the solution and wipe the rollers clean with it. That's make them more pliable and the paper jams will cease.

How do I fix the U140 error?

Hi, I have seen a lot of these issues with Canon printers. It suggests incorrect/unrecognized cartridges. We can call Canon Support for this. As a temporary solution: Remove the color cartridge that's blinking, rub a pencil eraser across the four gold contacts to clean them, then reinsert.

When I turn the printer

It seems that the cartridge is not recognized by the printer. There are two possibilities: the cartridge is faulty or the carriage unit is faulty. Carriage unit is cartridge housing where you used to install the cartridge inside printer.
Please try this first, clean contact area of the cartridge and carriage unit with dry clothe. Sometimes, bad contact cause such problem.

Just installed new ink and

Usually this means that one or both of the cartridges is not correctly installed. Remove the cartridges and reseat them. Make sure that you do not touch the contacts and nozzles on the cartridges. If you are using refilled or non-Canon cartridges, try a set of new Canon cartridges.

Make sure the cartridges are in the correct slots and push each cartridge forward until you hear a click. Then close the unit and let the all-in-one preform its start up operations. For pictures, see your manual or the Canon support site: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp470#ServiceAndSupport and search "install print head". The first result has the pictures you need.

I hope this helps.
