GE A730 Digital Camera Questions & Answers
What does write protect mean?
"Write Protect" means that something is locked and your device (camera) cannot "write" to it's storage area.
What type of "storage media" are you using?
For example: the camera's internal memory, a CompactFlash card, a Memory Stick, an "xD-Picture Card" (micro, mini or regular sized), or a Secure Digital/MultiMediaCard.
[Did you put something (a small plastic card of some sort) into a slot on the camera before or after turning it on?
Those little cards usually have a tiny button (also called a switch or lever) on them that will move back and forth to lock (write protect) or unlock it. This sounds like the memory card inside your camera is locked or "Write Protected.
To fix this simply take it out, closely examine the memory for the button- the button will be closer to the word "lock" or "protect" and all you need to do is gently slide it in the opposite direction from where it currently is. Put it back into the camera and see if it still says "Write Protect."

Proprietary? The GE A730 uses standard AA batteries. If you choose to use rechargeable batteries then you can charge them using any standard AA charger. Such chargers should be available at just about any department, electronics, or office-supply store.
Getting red vertical line on LCD panel
Do the pictures have the same line when viewing them on a PC or other device? If so, great chance your camera sensor or the connection to is is dammaged. If you only see it on the display, the display is dammaged, but you still can us the camera to shoot pictures.
SAYS WRITE PROTECTED
Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.
Need Manual
You may download a copy of the manual
here. The A730 is a camera, not a battery charger. It uses standard AA batteries. If you use rechargeable batteries, you must charge them outside the camera.
I have a GE digital A1235, I misplaced or lost the installation CD, How can I get another CD so I can download my pictures? I have a new computer.
You don't need any special software. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or, despite what said first, you can use any photo cataloging program such as
Picasa.
