I need the remote code
We would be happy to help you with that. Here is a list ofcodes that should address your DISH Network remote to your Philips Magnavox DVD Recorder: 801, 766, 556, and 585.
Press and hold the DVD/VCR button located on the top of the remote until allthe mode buttons at the top of the remote light up, then release. Use thenumber buttons to enter one of the codes for your Philips Magnavox DVD Recorder, then pressthe pound (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the modelight flashes three times. To check that the code works try several different functions on the remote tomake sure it will properly operate your Philips Magnavox DVD Recorder. Keep in mind that somecodes may not be compatible with your equipment. If this is the case, try the other codes listed for that device until you find one that iscompatible with your equipment. We hope this helps and thank you forbeing a valued DISH Network customer!

It is possible the DVD Recorder took a power surge if it was left plugged in if not, then items that are left for a long time without use sometimes draws more power on start up than normal blowing the fuse.
Was working fine-- after power outage-- no work
This may or may not work but is pretty much the only option aside from repair.Sometimes a power outage will simply cause a lock-up within a component. It is quite common. Some technology huh?It may actually be saving itself from frying.Just unplug it for maybe a minute and plug it back in.If it doesn't work, try another outlet.I have had just one half of an outlet go bad after an outage before. If it still doesn't power up,it likely needs work.If it is still under warranty,do not mention anything such as power outage or thunderstorm and contact Philips Magnavox. If it is non-warranty,here is a link to a place I used to work at.Due to the problem they may not be able to give an accurate assessment or estimate but is a toll free call to a well experienced place, although you may not want to send it there.I left there because of ethical concerns I observed.Consumer electronics. If you call them or not,you could let me know where abouts you are and I could probably find a place for you to send it to if there is not one available locally to you. Also,if you want to attempt self-repair,I can try my best to guide you.Good luck! I have two questions on
How old is your remote? The available codes programmed into the remote are for products that were on the market for at least 6 months before the remote was built. Newer codes can't be added except for the programmable remotes. However, I've found these codes for Magnovox DVD units 626, 661 and the following for Philips 640, 641, 766 with DISH remotes.
You need either composite or component video cables (or S-video cable depending on the TV). Composite video uses 3 RCA jacks (1 yellow for video, red/white for audio); component video cables have three jacks just for the video and a separate 2 jack cable for the audio. S-video is very similar to the Composite video. The coax out is a pass through. It lets the TV signal (from the satellite receiver or OTA) go to the TV tuner. The dvd picture will be be best on component video.
I hope this helps.

(the composite video is labeled Video Out, the component video is labeled Component video out; both are just a bit left of the Coax digital audio out (near the center of the unit))
NOT ABLE TO RECORD
Key thing to remember when recording anything is the following:
1. Color to color on the back of the machine
Video -yellow
Sound - White and red
2. Make sure your source is output and the recorder is input.
3. Be sure that it is original content that you are trying to record ie make sure you are recording from a VHS that is "Kids do Beauty and the Beast for 5th grade play" and not "Disney Beauty and The Beast"

Unit wont power up but
Hello,
If fuses are okay, then maybe the problem is from a capacitor, diode, or IC. You still need to read other components on the power board. The problem is power problem because if not, the player will power up.
So test other component with a meter and replace any bad part.
Take care.
Cannot play recorded movies on another dvd player
some dvd recorders only record to be play on their own machine...
and the ones that can be play on other machines (that player must be updated as in new model) i had to buy new machine to play my toshiba dvds this also works out you borrow dvd now and record it also
Magnavox H2160MW9A gets E19 and E21 messages burning DVDs
If you have a timer recording scheduled, the "A" version has a software
problem when trying to finalize disks. I would return the unit if it
is under warranty, especially if it is under warranty.
If it is not, you have several options. Open the unit and make sure
that the ribbon connectors are seated firmly. Purchase a replacement
DVD writer from Magnavox and install it yourself for about $70. Return
it to Magnavox for repair. Get it repaired locally.
I have had excellent luck with the Sony DVD+RW disks that are made in
Taiwan. You might want to check the package and determine if they are
from Taiwan or elsewhere. If you have a PC that has a DVD writer,
check the problem DVD's in the PC.
I think it is your Magnavox, sorry to say.

Will not Record
I strongly recommend only using DVD's that are specified as being compatible or proven compatible with your Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD recorder.
If even commercial discs are no longer playing, the best you can hope for is 'gunk' on your lens, for which you can use a dvd head cleaner disc to clean your lasers lens.
I hope that helps.
