Trace wires backward from the compressor. should be a small "box" If you can hear it click it should be ok. Compressor could be bad. You need a volt ohm meter. zero or very low resistance between power and ground (frame body) of the compresser means an internal short to ground.Thermal over load may be bad but normally would protect the compressor.

The number reason for the Jenn Air no cool situation is caused by a break down of hte PAG oil in the compressor, thus clogging the capilary tube at the filter drier area, and causing contamination within the system. Per the Maytag TSB, a new compressor kit, heat exchanger, and new liquid line drier are required to be replaced. The compressor kit should come with a new main logic board. The ramaining componants need to be completely purged with nitrogen till clean. The condensor coil must be clean and free of any dust. A new lower freon charge follows the completed repair, and replacement decal to show new charge.

This is an indication of a bad main control board. The main control board is located in the compressor compartment. The part # for this is 67006853. You may order part from Sears or from any other place online. Instruction sheet is provided along with the part.

Hi Jim,
I am currently working on that model for a friend, the higher number the colder that compartment will get, it is not advisable to go any higher than 5 or 6, because this will reduce air to the refer section. Is the fan working in the freezer? I have seen problems with this model, and when the drain pan to the evaporator clogs, then the water freezes around the fan motor and stops it from functioning.

This may have happened because of a clog in the drain pipe and/or due to the ice maker fill tube may be blocked with ice. If so, melt the blockage using a hair dryer-but be careful to not melt any plastic parts! Also replace the water shut-off valve or water-inlet valve, or both, if necessary. It's a Jenn-Air, you will need a service call. They are totally electronic and very complex. Look in the manual first as there may be a child lock function on the controls. It sounds like a thermister has failed though which is a temperature control device. It shouldn't freeze at 38'F, 6' above freezing.
