Gaggia MDF Electric Burr Grinder Questions & Answers
Is there a fuse inside the grinder to protect it
My MDF was built in September 1993. It has a fuse inside a black cylindrical fuse holder on the electronics board that sits aside the motor. If you have a right-angle flat blade screwdriver, you can get the fuse out without removing the motor unit from the case. I didn't have the right tool, so I ended up removing the motor/grinder unit from the case to replace the fuse. The fuse is a 2A/250V Slow Blow. I used a Buss CDC-2A to replace the factory "5TT 2A/250V" fuse.
How can I clean my Gaggia burr coffee grinder?
For parts you can see, use an artists paintbrush. If you want to clean the internals, grind some panko breadcrumbs or raw rice grains, then run some coffee through it a few times before using.
I have a Gaggia burr
Look inside the grinder, The lever is attach to a SPRING .
May be the lever is disconnected (unhooked) from the spring.
AND YES IS FIXABLE.
It cost you about $15-$30 for the parts.
How do you change the grind on a gaggia coffee
if it is everything in order you change the grind buy rolling the plastic container of coffee beans(container commands to upper burr holder. If it doesn't go easy than disassemble container and unscrew the upper burr holder, carefully when it comes out, you have some pins and springs from below. do not loose or displace them.
Cleaned the Gaggia MDF grinder
- check the supply wire IF IT NEEDS CHANGING CHANGE IT
- check the switch IF IT NEEDS CHANGING CHANGE IT
- check the thermo fuse if it is built in ( if it is resettable than reset) if it is not resettable than just make one bridge from wire for testing( you will need to input resettable one if motor is ok)
- check the electro motor and bearings IF REWINDING IS NEEDED GO TO MOTOR REWINDING WORKSHOP (ASK FOR CHANGE OF BEARINGS TOO)
I took the grinder apart and realized that there
simply you screw until you hear metal sound of burrs touching each other. Than:
Grinding setting is one
simple operation but requires bit patience:
- Turn on your grinder and
continue setting to fine while burrs are spinning, you stop when you hear
metal to metal touch sound(burrs maximally closed finest grinding)
- From that point go back quarter
of revolution and mark the spot where you stopped with marker to body of
grinder and setting plate with one line
- Grind little amount
of coffee only to fill one sector of dosser than test it at your
machine (if it leaks too fast and with yellow color of cream you should go
to more fine>><< if it does not leak from the filter holder or
it leaks very slow you go to in opposite way.
- You test grinding few
times bit after each reset of plate grind little amount and take
that in one other pot (that will provide to have pure new granulation)
After setting measure
the grounded coffee that comes out from dosser it should be
about 7 grams, better measurement you can get if you measure 10 doses in one
place because you don't get never
same amount from 6 sectors of dosser
The plastic doser broke where can i get one?

Gaggia MDF Electric Burr Grinder
It could well be gummed up with years of coffee bean residue
Very simple to take apart. There are two screws holding the cannister. They are hidden under 5mm round rubber covers that you have to pry off. Then remove the two screws holding the plastic cover. Mark the position of the numbered dial relative to the brass burr assembly then remove it. Once exposed, you should be able to figure out why it is locked. Scrape away as much gunk as you can.
MDF very coarse grind
Several possibilities loom:
1. Same burrs for 25 years? don't be cheap replace them!
2. Dirt in the threads of the burr carrier, or the threads that recieve it?
