Windows 2000 won't recognise my current HD driver

you cannot up grade from win 98 to win 2000 There is too big a gap in technology to allow it to happen you have to remove the win 98 operating system and install the win 2000 operating system That basically means re-formatting the hard drive so save all files and folders to an external storage facility once you install win 2000 the driver will be installed automatically

What is printed on the labels on the top of each disk?
What is the model-number?
Do a GOOGLE-search on that model-number, to see what others have written about that model,
including the "specifications".

I need a Driver/Firmware for a Quantum Fireball

as I stated in my first thread , no firmware or drivers
needed for internal HDD , and remember Windows
uses an allocated partition of 8 gigabytes for the OS
which will only leave 5 gigabytes left on a 13 gigabyte
HDD , and for solid state HDD , the only difference is
solid state has no moving parts , there are trying to impress us with technology that is over 35 yrs old
like a calculator other than its buttons its solid state

I need a driver/firmware for this drive

the only reason for needing firmware for a HDD no matter what kind it is would be if the HDD has some kind of utility embedded on it
such as like one touch back up , I have never heard of an internal
HDD needing firmware . the HDD are static and need to be formatted before using them . other than that there isn't even
a driver , and I recommend if the internal drive does has some kind of utility on it don't use it especially for the master C: drive , the one
that holds your operating system , thus will cause critical errors
and make your computer fail .

Configuring two hard drives

OK this one is easy.
For the IDE drive, simply make sure the Jumper is set for MASTER, and connct to the END of the ribbon cable.
With the SATA, it is just connect up and go.

I have a HP4455. It has a Quantum Fireball 3.5 HD.

Windows 98 computer, huh? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph04973&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=58161 Suggest you try a different, known to be good, flat ribbon interface cable. Sometimes these interface cables go bad.

Harddrives are a mechanical device. They have a 'Life Cycle'.
After so many hours of usage, the life cycle come to an end. Kind of like for a human being. It could be your harddrive is at it's end.

You could try installing this harddrive into an inexpensive external enclosure.(Uses a USB cable) Plug it into a working computer. Go to My Computer, find which drive letter it is, (Example: (D:) or (E:) or (F:), double-click on that drive letter, and see if you can access this harddrive.
Your harddrive is an IDE harddrive. IDE is also referred to as EIDE, ATA, and PATA.
It is a 3.5" harddrive.
Examples of inexpensive IDE external enclosures,

Quantium 10.2 gb fireball CX10A011 specs. ie sectors, mode, etc.

The specifications to enter the information manually, are on top of the harddrive. Kind of hard to discern, huh? That's because harddrive sizes from 6.4GB through 20.4GB are listed on top.
C/H/S = Cylinders/Heads/Sectors
The Quantum Fireball CX10A011 hardrive is a 10.2GB harddrive.
You will see -> C/H/S....10.2 - 16383/16/63 on top.

That is ,
16,383 Cylinders
16 Heads
63 Sectors

As for the 40GB model, it should be similar. If not, come back and post.

Harddrives

  • Firstly this is an easy less painful way to do this and it works 99% of the time.
  • Secondly if you do not know how to do this - DON'T, it can be an expensive screw up if you do not know what you're doing !!!
  • Thirdly we are going to slave your hard drive to another PC so we can format the drive. If you are unsure about how to slave the drive to another PC - DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS, GET A PROFESSIONAL TO HELP YOU.
  1. Remove the left & right sides of your tower by removing the four screws at the back along the side of the panel
  2. ( all screws shown as red circles with lines in them ) The yellow circle highlights where the hard drive came from and there should be screws on both sides ( we hope )
a4b9290.jpg
  • This image shows the side panel off with the hard drive partially removed.
  • Pay attention to what goes where ( you will need to remember this later ) - Label the leads if needed.
  • Carefully unplug the leads from the back of the hard drive.
Now here is the important part, if you don't know how to set your drive as a slave - GET SOMEONE WHO CAN !!!
  • Pop your hard drive in another PC - by reversing the above process, and connecting the leads to your hard drive.
Now power up the PC with your hard drive in it and click the following...
  • Start ( bottom left hand corner of your screen )
  • My Computer ( opens up the panel of drives on the PC )
  • Right Click the Hard Drive you slaved to the PC
  • ( you may want to check this is actually your drive, it will most likely show up as D - Drive or some other letter of the alphabet, and the main hard drive will show up as C ( easiest way to tell them apart is the icons are the same, one will be Labeled C and yours will be labeled D or some other letter.
  • When you are 200% sure this is your drive, right click on it and go down to FORMAT - this will wipe the entire drive clean - so double check this is the drive you want to format, you only get one shot at this, once it's gone, it's pretty much gone forever.
  • The format will take a reasonable amount of time, depending on what is on the drive ( how much space has been used ) but simply let the format run until it says completed.
  • Power down the PC, remove the hard drive - reset the pins from slave back to normal - and pop it back in your PC.
There are other ways of doing this, but i feel this is the most painless way.

If you find this helps, please take the time to rate the solution, thank you.

I'm guessing it's drawing too much power.

Considering that drive came from an Apple computer over 8 years old...it may have failed. Drive on have on average a 4 yar life under normal use. 13gb drive have not been in production in atleast a decade. YOu may need to seek data recovery, and hardware means to recover as opposed to software.

try.

Quantum wheelchair stuck in configuring network

Very limited help in the link. Most of these chairs have a breaker switch. Flip the breaker off for 5 minutes and then back on. This should reset the control panel. The long way to do it is to remove the negative battery cable. https://www.google.com/search?q=Quantum+wheelchair+stuck+in+configuring+network ..
