I have a old Gateway 835gm that im trying to revive with a XFX R7 250 Graphics Card Unfortunatly, Whenever i start it up, The Gateway logo flashes for about half a second, and i get no signal.. Help?

Do you hear any beeps when the computer is turned on? How many do you hear and what sequence? Have you tried to put the computer in the hardware setup mode? Perhaps it is done by holding down Ctrl/F2 keys while turning on the computer. What are the settings for the hard drive and monitor found in the setup mode? Do you have another graphics card to try out in this computer? Try it and report back.

I need a new graphics card - are they still

8641107c-41fb-47e8-abd9-242eb2eb8bb3.jpghttps://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/5022/5022sp3.shtmlgateway support shows you have a pci-e x16 slot for a video cardyou can choose a non-powered pci-e video card for your system, which might be better for you if you still have the stock power supply in your tower.or, you can choose a powered pci-e card if your power supply is powerful enough to run your system AND a pci-e video card too. a powered card will have a spot for a 6 pin (or 2x 6 pin or sometimes a 6 pin and/or an 8 pin) power connector that comes from your power supply to the video card ... you may have to replace your power supply to use a powered card, or get a pci-e power adapter (not the preferred method, but sometimes works).here is an example of a non powered pci-e card4be000da-0366-469d-a4e5-7e856ed11d23.jpgand here is an example of a powered pci-e card, see that black connector near the back of the card, that's the power connectiond14f2193-6517-4757-bb64-295e7b40c008.jpgand the 6 pin connector from the power supply looks like this (and power supply adapter shown also)354f29da-d560-40ae-ba05-463a627b8eb0.jpgdoes this help?

I made some mods/upgrades for Gateway 835 GM (Started with RAM -2GB Sticks- , Video Cards, & Finally CPU because of the sudden not wanting to display anything on my screen! PLEASE READ & REVIE

Here is what I would do, depending on your board go to what the brand is and download the BIOS again flash it if you do not see the BIOS at the startup. If you do see the BIOS then you will need to install the drivers for these components you replaced. Depending on which operating system you are using. Win XP you will have to load drivers from the driver disks that came with the product replacement or search for one online. If you have Win 7 it should pick the drivers up through Windows Updates load them without them or a running BIOS your shot in the dark. Your computer has to have a BIOS and drivers to run the hardware you replaced. Just because you had them before does not mean it will operate. correctly. Make sure your components are the correct ones for your machine. Just because ram fits does not mean it is the correct ram. So get BIOS up again from there boot from C: reload Windows then re install the whole operating system and be sure to load drivers and updates. That is how I would proceed with this issue. John

Why are the fans so noisey

You used word FANS so seems you have two - probably one on processor and one on case. Unplug power cord, remove case cover and inspect for debris. Blow out gently with canned air if dirty. Retry. If still noisy, disconnect power cable to one fan and retry to see which one is making the noise. Then remove bad fan and take it and data on the computer make/model to a computer supply store and buy a new fan. Check that the hole pattern and power connector are the same. Take home and reinstall. Problem fixed for about $20.

Removed dd card to check it i reinstalled my gateway 835gm it turns on it reads log on to windows click ok but it wont do any thing

Either the RAM module has not been installed properly or the RAM is faulty. Try removing the RAM module and inserting it again, make sure the locking levers on the ends of the RAM modules are locked in place.

My monitor would not come on after a thunder

do you have a surge protector? if not then you probably popped the little fuses in the back of the monitor, at the very least.. you could have blown a diode as well, as far as the comp, see if it has a fuse, it should be close to where the power comes into the machine

835gm powers up, but monitor power button goes

1. It could be bad connection of Memory, CPU, Graphic-cards etc. Try to reseat them aswell.
2. Have you tried replacing the power-unit?
3. Some BIOS es are a bit 'stupid', do you have a fairly new and working monitor plugged in directly (bypassing KVMs)?

Worst case is 'BGA-slip', the bridge-chips and/or onboard GPU has some broken solderings, typically happens to Laptops.

Wont turn on

Check the Power supply. It's in the back. Use your nose, it it smells like burned wiring, change it. You can buy a 450 or 500 for around $40.00.
Good Luck

HTLDR is missing

It's NTLDR. Your system is unable to boot your operating system. now do this following steps:
1. Insert the Windows CD and start the computer.
2. When the Welcome to Setup screen appears,           press R.
3. Type a number corresponding to the Windows           installation you wish to repair (usually 1) and press     Enter.
4. When prompted, type the administrator password       and press Enter.
5.  From the command prompt, copy NTLDR and            NTDETECT.COM from the i386 folder of the CD to      the root folder of the hard drive. In the example          commands given below, C: is the hard drive and        D: is the CD-ROM drive. You will need to change        the drive letters if appropriate:
     COPY D:\I386\NTLDR C:\
     COPY D:\I386\NTDETECT.COM C:\
6.  Remove the Windows XP CD from the drive and          restart the computer.

Installed windows 7 on my

You can try running "Startup Repair" from the Windows 7 DVD. It should reinstall the kernel designed for the non-ACPI PC. If that does not work, try and set the BIOS back to it's previous state by using the original operating system CD your Gateway 835Gm came with from the factory.

I just purchased a refurbished Gateway 835 Gm

Well youve paid for and got it know, so it shouldn't really matter. I think once you have something then you should not worry about the cost unless it starts giving hassle. I bought my PS3 and a few weeks later it dropped by 150€, but I have it and Im happy with it.
