Most Windows 8 product keys are stored in the CMOS now. To use teh key, load Windows 8 from the factory restore partition or from a Genuine Windows 8 ISO Image or Genuine Windws 8 DVD and the CMOS will weave its magic when it sees Windows 8 being loaded.

The 0xc0000185 error simply means that the computer can't communicate with the CD drive. It could be due to a faulty CD drive or media, a bad connection, faulty interface, bad memory, power supply etc. You will need to isolate the problem further, why couldn't you boot normally? check the BIOS settings again and try clearing the CMOS memory correctly as described in the manual (just removing the battery may not be good enough).

The product key is associated with the MS Office 2013 software, not the specific MS Windows version of Operating System - unless the MS Office lists a minimum version of OS ie: "Windows 8.0" In this case, it would not install on Windows 7. Otherwise, you should be able to install it on Windows 7, Windows 8, or later.
