I formated my c drive of my acer aspire 1640z, and

Your restore disks also use fdisk and format to do the same thing you did this way by reformatting, but without all these extra hassles. Do you have a primary partition that is in active status? to check use a Windows boot disk or an MS Dos boot disk making sure that they have fdisk.exe,format.com,sys.com,and scandisk.exe
1.run fdisk and select option 4(display partition information)
2.if the partitions are listed then look for an uppercase A in the status column of your primary partition
3.if there are no partitions listed use fdisk to create new partitions and then use format to format the partitions.
4. then try your restore disks they should work, if you have already done all of this email me [email protected] and we will move on from there if you are still having the problems. Hoped it helped!!!

Acer Aspire 1640z overheating

Clear the dust from the heatsink and fan assembly. Most laptops have vents on the bottom and outlet vents on the side or back of the laptop. The fan covers on the base are held in place by screws. The fan is usually over the CPU and is held in place with 3 or 4 spring loaded screws, remove these will allow you to remove the fan and heatsink assmbly.
If there isn't vents on the bottom of the laptop, only on the sides and back edges, then the heatsink and fan assembly is usually located under the keyboard and you need to remove the keyboard to clean/remove the dust off the heatsink/fan.
After cleaning and before re-assembly apply a thin film of heatsink compound on top of the CPU.

Laptop Mousepad and Keyboard stuttering, slow

This may be a battery power monitor issue. Try disabling the "Mircosoft ACPI- Compliant Control Method Battery" device. This is located in Control Panel-->System-->Hardware Tab-->Device Manager-->Batteries. Had similar problem with 2 Acer Aspire series laptops (diff models). 2 and 3 year old. Original batteries (both still hold charges for 1.5 hrs of normal usage). Running WinXP, one with SP2 and other had SP3. Both came in the last month with slow jerky TPAD function and nearly non responsive keyboard access. Checked the usual; virus, spyware, hijacking, driver conflict etc. Cloned drive and factory installed..still same problem with kb & mouse. However an external USB keyboard and mouse functioned normally (no lag). Noticed with Battery removed kb & mouse was normal. Finally found disabling ACPI control battery device resolved this issue while allowing laptop to run on either battery or AC.

Acer laptop 1640z

Your best bet is to find your parts online on ebay. You will find that the parts will usually cost almost as much as a new up to date laptop. If your new parts cost 70% the price of a new laptop, I would spring for the new one :)

Goodluck!
