Acer TravelMate 4010 Notebook Questions & Answers
Our old Acer just won't
Hi crowmick,
Have you tried performing a power drain? If not, lets try this as a first step.
1. Unplug the power cord, now unplug the battery.
2. Press and hold the power button for 1 minute.
3. Then plug the battery and power cord back in.
4. Try to turn it on.
Note: If the system is not charging then your adapter is failing.
If this does not work, we will need to remove and reseat the RAM chips. Ram chips are sensitive. They can go for no reason at any time. And a sure sign of a ram chip being blown is no response whatsoever from a power button.
1. Remove battery and power cord.
2. Turn computer over.
3. There is a small plate, with two screws.. Inside that plate, are your ram chips. You need to remove them, and then, reinsert them. Don't forget to clean the contacts.
4. Try again to power up the computer afterwards.
If this does not work, I will recommend to take your hard drive out, then put it in a case and it would act as an internal hard drive so you could transfer any data via USB to another computer.
Hope it helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.
Why cant i boot this machine?
Some newer machine will not boot if an external USB memory stick is connected to it.
Remove all USB device(s),CD or DVD and try again.

Hi,

Travelmate 4010
Left side has wireless symbol on it.
Hope this helps.
I have Acer travelmate 4010 laptop >>>
Download a copy of Hiren's Boot CD from here and burn it on a disc:
http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/
Upon start up you will get a menu similar to this one:
Under advanced boot options boot from the one that suits your operatin system (XP or Vista or Windows 7). If it loads it means the bootmgr is corrupt, you can try to repair it with the Windows installation disc, instead of Install choose Repair.
Now, regarding the BIOS password, you will have to select Dos Boot CD and go to BIOS/CMOS menu and run Kill CMOS to wipe the BIOS completely or there are some utilities there that can reset just password. There re some other options too for reseting the password that you can read about here:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r7229632-reset_or_remove_bios_password
Need to reset the bios
To reset the BIOS password read the information from this
link.
In case of your laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.
My Acer Laptop opens and runs for about 5
Hello
To solve this problem i do the following steps
Rebooted the system and continued pressing F8 -> got a screen that allowed for a F1: Boot -> did the F1 and continued pressing F8 and got the Safe Mode screen -> selected the Last Know Good Configuration and repeatedly pressed Ctrl+Shift+Esc sequence -> Windows XP loaded correctly! -> opened the C drive ->windows folder ->system32 folder ->restore folder -> and started the rstrui application -> selected a date prior to the download of the bad files -> and now the problem is all gone!
Hope it helps, if so do rate the solution.
Good Luck
Not charging
try to have your power cable checked. maybe the power supply isnt working and/or defective. if this doesnt work, try to check your battery pack. you can also go to an ACER service center because technicians there are equipped with the proper tools to fix/check your cable nor the battery pack.
My toutchpad stop working on my lap top do you
It may be having some dust which can cause to stop working, But you can check the drivers in Device manager. There should be no Yellow or Red mark, If it is then Please install the driver. You can just restat your machine once. it may resolve your problem..
If still not resolved then Just put some Palm hit on the back of your touch pad , it may work.
I turned on the laptop
Actually its asking for a administrator password..

I know this might sound like it too simple a solution, but sometimes even new things do not work. You might have obtained a bad battery that will not charge. Are you sure it is charging? You might also try to remove the battery and check to make sure the connections in the laptop and the battery are clean. Sometimes gunk accumulates in places you would not expect. If there is something other than a nice clean look, try to clean it off. Do not scrape with any metal object - if it will not come off easily, try using a new pencil eraser. Then blow the residue out ofthe battery compartment and try again. If this does not work, it might be a bad battery. The other thing to check is: Look at the connections on the battery and on the computer. Do they look like they match? Sometimes a battery will fit in the battery compartment, but the connections do not match so it will not work.
