Dishwasher leaves upper rack dishes

Your water pressure is not high enough in the dishwasher to wash the dishes on the top rack. The most common reason is that the pump in your dishwasher cannot pump fast enough to keep the water pressure up. That is because the shaft that drives the pump impeller also drives the macerator cutter that grinds up bits of food fine enough for it to pass through the screen and out to the drain. Over time, small bits of bone, broken glass, eggshell, and other items that are too strong to be cut up by the cutter end up sitting in the area where it has to spin, and they prevent it from spinning fast enough to pump enough water to the top rack with any pressure. It is simple enough to repair. You need to take out the racks, remove the bottom arm and clean out the little macerator. Once that is done, it should work great again.

I ahve a DC900PC dishwasher

Hi

Dishwasher not draining issue usually occurs due to kinked drain pipe, clogged drain filter or drain pump. Check the drain hose for any visible clogging, remove if present. If no visible lint is present then remove then turn off the dishwasher and remove the drain hose and check for any visible clogging. If still not visible then the drain filter or drain pump is clogged and you'll need to clean the drain filter and drain pump. Also, check for any food pieces stuck near the pump impeller.
Please note that dishwashers don't drain out the complete water such that heating element doesn't overheat. Hope this helps... Please post back for any further assistance.

Dishwasher does not drain completely DU890SWLUO

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Dishwasher not draining properly or not draining at all issues can arise due to different reasons. Usually, these issues are related to kinked hoses, knocked out disposer unit (if connected with the dishwasher drain hose) & clogged drain pump & filter.

Also note that dishwashers do not drain completely after a finished cycle and this is normal. Dishwashers are designed to leave some water in the unit to ensure that the heating element doesn’t overheat. If you suddenly begin to experience a large amount of water being retained in your dishwasher, you have a problem. Some of the most common reasons include that the drain hose isn’t working properly, the drain pump isn’t working correctly, or possibly there is a plumbing problem in your home’s drain lines.

First check whether the drain is not clogged or blocked and the line is not kinked. Check all the hoses for blockages & also clean the air gap. Has the disposer been replaced recently? If so, chances are the knockout is still in place. Simply remove the drain hose from the disposer, and knock out the plug. If the disposer has not been replaced, try removing the drain hose from the disposer and use a wet-dry vacuum (prepared for water, of course) to **** any water (and hopefully anything else) from the drain line. Then reconnect the hose, and test the unit. If you have checked the air gap and the drain hose and can’t locate the problem, then it is an issue with the drain pump of the dishwasher.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

Whirlpool DU900PCDQ6 Dishwasher Will Not Fill With Water

Wow a 13 Dec 2009 post. I just started in Jan 2010 and am going thru questions.

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

Before you go taking it out from under the counter... (at this point thre really is not a need to do so) lets back up a bit.

There are 2 main suspects at this point.

1. The internal Float and Switch assy sticking / inoperative

FLOAT (Item32 of link)
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=262340&diagram_id=104009#d104009

The float should move freely up and down. If the stem gets coated with debris it can stick in the up position. Make sure the float moves up and down while listening for an audible switch "click" as it nears the top position and just as you begin to lower it again.

The Float Switch (Item 30 of above link)
This is the switch that you should hear as you move the float up and down. No click = no fill

and

2. The water valve assy not functioning correctly

Water valve (Item 16 of above link)

The failures of a water valve are:
a. An open coil
b. A clogged diaphram
c. A sticking internal needle valve that is actuated by the coil

I am pretty sure that it is either a stuck float or a bad water inlet valve.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Solution for "how do you determine if the pump is working versus the water valve needing replaced"

Make sure the water is turned on to the machine.
Set the machine to start the cycle. Put a volt meter on the water valve terminals. At the fill portion of the cycle you will read 120 volts at these terminals. If you read 120 volts and no fill, the water valve is bad. If you do not read 120 volts, the timer is bad.
Fill the tub with water using a pot. Set the machine at the pump out cycle. If it pumps out, the pump is good.
If it does not pump out it could be a bad pump or bad timer.

DU943PWK won't drain

If you take the bottom panel off the DW, there is a white plastic tube that is sticking out, but attached to the motor. Turn the tube counter clockwise ( Please be sure to have wet vac ready as this tube will let water out, even if you think you have all water out, still have wet vac and towels ready) Pieces of things get stuck in that tube and make it hard to drain.. replace tube to motor after cleaning and test unit

Whirlpool Spray Tower

I got the same problem and spent a couple of days trying to figure it out. The solution is extremely simple - you just snap the tower to the bottom tray. You need to lift the tray, insert the tower through the middle cell of the tray, and just snap it on it. That's it - no bolts, no connectors, nothing.

Dishwasher Making Loud High Pitched Noise.

A loud high pitch whine while running the dishwasher means that there is something caught in the chopper assembly. To get to the chopper assembly you need to take the racks out and take the pump apart from the inside of the dishwasher. The chopper assembly looks like a metal grate with holes in it. And it might not even be stuck in the grate but somewhere in the pump area due to the water being pumped out, so the best idea is to take the whole thing apart and clean everywhere. However I do not recommend doing this unless you are completely certain you will remember where the screws and gaskets go, otherwise you risk damaging your pump or house from a leak or improper installation. You have been warned.
