Acomdata PHD060U2E-54 60 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive - Page 2 Questions & Answers
I lost the power cord to my external hard drive.
Hi annabel_nyc,
You need to make sure that you get a compatible power adapter for that model. Most of Acomdata external drives use a 12v adapter, but not all. If you plug the wrong voltage into the drive, you do have the possiblity of frying your external. I'd check with your manual or post back your model number so I can look that adapter up.
Good Luck

What is voltage for HD500UAFAPE5-72 ?
You can't us a transformer. You need a 12 Volt DC. best 2 A. But the plug should be connected correct. DC has a plus and a minus. Reverse that and your drive will never work again.

Software
there isn't any software for a USB drive, the system should just see it just like any other USB drive. Try moving the USB cable to a different port. That fools the system into thinking it a different drive & forces the USB drivers to reinstall.

Need power cord for Acomdata SHD250UFAPE-54
If you can't find a cord, you can just take the drive out of the case & install it in your desktop as a 2nd drive. That way you can get to your files. Also, they make a adapter cable to make it a USB drive, you could try that.

There is no such thing as a recover code, if a drive is password protected. If you have important data on the drive you have to find the password. Perhaps you try all words you used the last 5 years. You did not even mentioned how you did protect the drive. But even the simplest program that encrypted the data, made it impossible to read it as the files should be.
If you did not encrypt the files, the drive operating system is only telling it can't read the files anymore, then you can try a recover program on your PC Try one of these for that:
www.wondershare.net with free trail
www.cardrescue.com with free evaluation version
http://www.memorycard.freedatarecoverysoftware.org
Some programs will show the deleted files, but only recover a few files. If you want to recover more files they want you to pay. If so, try another program on the list.

FORGOT PASSWORD
If it's your HDD then good luck. If it's not your HDD then give it back. From what I've read formatting and loosing all your data is the only answer.
