EdgeStar Portable Air Conditioner Heater Questions & Answers
I turn on the air
Hi lbgirl35,
There is a possibility that your coil is dirty and freezing that may cause the problem. Find the filter panel and open it and check to see if the filters are dirty and you should be able to see the evap coil right there the filter is right in front of it. Do not flatten them out just use some household cleaner be careful to read if they will damage aluminum some will. spray a safe cleaner on and just rinse it off.
Hope it helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.

The water light keeps coming on and kicking off
the float switch which sits down in the bucket may be stuck, try and find it and give it a wiggle to free it up.
will probably find it by removing the bucket and looking in the space where it normally sits.
cheers

How do you drain water pan for dehydrator
I dont know this model unit specifically, how ever there should be a panel you can open to access the drain tray. See if the front panel opens ( should not need any tools to open it)

How far from floor should exhaust hose hole be
makes no difference, as long as the ducting is not kinked.
keep in mind heat rises
so obviously if you could dump the heat elsewhere, away from the area you are cooling, then it would not creep back up through the floor. If your flooring is well insulated it will not matter.

Edgestar AP550Z - Noisy, Not Compressor, Flywheel?
Please read the problem carefully and address the problem. These reponses fail to do that! The problem is in the balancing of the circulating exhaust fan which is like a hamster wheel lying on its side. Once this begins to make noise, it is due to breakdown completely. This is a problem that should not happen and is built in obsolescence. It needs to be maunufactured stronger.

Edgestar 12,000 portale air conditioner and heater
There are 3 possibilities beginning with the most likely problem
1) If your heater heats up for a few minutes and then quits, chances are there is a blockage in the air flow, check for dust and grime blocking the air intake coarse filter , airgun blow to clear accumulated dust and otherwise clean the coarse filter .
2) If the heater fan blows but there is no warm air, the heating element needs renewal ( this happens very rarely)
3)If the fan stalls and the heater heats up and the thermostat kicks in, then this will be not be a DIY job. This is least likely as you said the air cooler works.

Edgestar AP550Z won't heat, goes into some sort of alert mode
http://edgestar.com/ownersmanuals/AP550Z_wire-fix.pdf
This could apply to at least one of your units. Apparently these models have had some trouble with the compressor capacitor wires coming loose. If they're barely touching they could cause the compressor to run intermittently and possibly overheat. The compressor runs in heating and cooling mode.
