Possibly a bad volume/on/off volume potentiometer. Try using canned air around the volume/on/off knob to remove any debris down along the shaft. If this does not help, your unit may need repair. Do not use any chemicals, cleaners or solvents on the shaft, only use air. Clean your internal battery contacts on the batteries and the radio with a pencil eraser to assure good connection. If you are using rechargeable batteries, try charging the batteries again. If this does not help, your unit may need repair. Best regards.

This radio operates in the GMRS/FRS radio service area. 462.5625 to. 462.7250 MHz. The GMRS frequencies technically need an FCC license. Most people don't have a license.

You cannot program the radio. Find a GE dealer. Business band, not consumer band and must be programmed with software and cables specific to this model of radio. MPI's were a good handheld. Model number is more helpful than a serial number.

If the headset works normally, then check the headphone settings on that internet software, make sure that correct audio device is selected in the settings.

Hi Howard,Is there any noise or voice coming from the speaker before you try to transmit?If so, you are trying to talk at the same time the channel is already in use, be it voice or someone holding down their PTT button without talking just to be a nuisance.If this is correct, then nothing wrong with your radio, and nothing can be done about the button pusher blocking the channel.Sorry if I have been of no help here, some things are beyond my scope.Cheers,Peter
