Hi !!! my name is

You do not have to set the clock time as a built-in automatic time set system is equipped in this clock powered by 3V (2X AA batteries). All you have to do is to plug this clock for power and current time will be shown automatically. However, the batteries can also be exhausted and it is recommended to replace the batteries every 2-3 years.

But if you want Setting the Clock:
1. Slide the switch /WAKE1/WAKE2/ on the top of the unit to clock position.
2. Press REV or FWD to set the clock time. The time decrements or increments will follow by a faster rate when you press and hold the buttons. The ":" between hour and minute time flashes when you are setting the time. AM or PM icon will also beside the time.
3. Slide the switch /WAKE1/WAKE2/on the top of the unit to original position when finished.

Thanks.

You can set clock time manually also if you want.

RCA RP5420B 2Band AM/FM Clock Radio

At the top of the clock, there is four positions for the slider. The first is shown as a key, which I assume is the automatic time setting mode. The second is Wake 1, the third is Wake 2 and all the way to the right is a manual time setting mode. If you slide it all the way to the right, you can set the time, then either keep it in that mode or return it back to automatic mode. Either way, you now have the correct time displayed.

Always 5 minutes behind

Does it set properly and then fall behind? If so, it could be that the oscillating circuit (usually made with a quartz crystal and some capacitors) has fallen slightly below its designed frequency of operation. I suppose that if you still have a receipt and it's still returnable to the store that you purchased it from, you could just exchange it for another one. It's something that pretty much only the manufacturer would bother to repair, as it'd be more expensive to do that work than to just get a new one.
