After downloading the software (.exe file), please double click on it. Then, install the software as per the instructions shown. Then, connect your phone to your computer with the USB cable.

Then, your computer must recognize the phone and you are ready to transfer files. :)

It sounds like the battery is not functioning
Go to a store that sell Samsung phones and ask them if you can try with one of their batteries and say that you will buy it if it works :) If it still isn't working then you saved yourself some money by not buying a new battery and then you know that the problem is in the phone and not the battery.
