The item "IMB_0541.MOV" could not be moved because "TOSHIBA EXT" cannot be modified.

There are several possible causes for this symptom. It's possible that the external hard drive isn't getting enough power. Make sure that it's power adapter is connected correctly and working. If it's powered through USB only, try connecting it to another USB port on your computer (avoid plugging it into USB hubs and using long and thin USB cables). Unplug the hard drive completely for at least 10 seconds, power off your computer in the mean while, power it on again (not a direct restart) and see if it resolves the issue. Try to connect the drive to another computer and see if the issue persists. If the drive has the same issue on several computers, there might be a severe problem with the drive. If that's the case, start shopping for a new external drive. There's a chance for simple data retrieval though. If it's the electronics in the enclosure, the actual hard disc drive is probably still fine. If that's the case, you can find a way to open the enclosure (do a Google search with the precise model name and you'll probably find a tutorial) and you can install the hard drive in a desktop computer, a hard-drive docking station or another enclosure. Try to find a computer-savvy cousin/nephew to help you with this.

What type of adapter can I use instead of a

The reason for the double USB is, one controls the power and the other, the information. If this is the adapter that cam with your HD, then you probably will want to use it. If you need to free up some USB ports, I recommend that you find yourself an adapter. They are really inexpensive, especially on Ebay.

External Hardrive Issue

body { background: #FFFFFF; margin: 0px; padding: 4px; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; } p { margin:0px; padding:0px; } .spwrap { background: transparent url(../wysiwyg_rte/misspell.gif) repeat-x scroll center bottom; } Hello

Okay , so there are some steps to figure out what is wrong with your external.

Firstly , if your computer makes a sound when you plug in your external , go to Start-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Disk Management , and see if your external drive is listed here with your local drives. If it is listed , right click on the drive and change the drive letter to make it appear in "my computer".

If your drive does not make a connection sound when connecting to your computer and also does not show up , please follow the next step.

Remove the hard drive from the casing if possible and install it in your computer case or another external case.If the drive works , the problem is with the casing and you can ignore the drive.

Now , if the problem is with the casing , there are still 3 possibilities.

  1. The USB cable between the drive and the computer may be damaged.
  2. The circuit board which connects your drive to the interface of the external may be blown.
  3. The power supply (if applicable) may have a blown transformer.
The latter is the easiest to diagnose , does your external light up at all when you plug in the power? If not , then this is probably your problem. On the bottom of the adapter is a label which you will be able to use to have a new adapter made at your local electronics shop and this will cost about $30 max. They will also be able to test the adapter with a clamp meter to see if this is really the problem and this should be free.

The second component you want to test is the USB cable. If you have a printer , swop out the cables and see if your printer functions normally. Most externals use the same connector so you should be able to test it in this manner. If the cable works go on to the last step. If the cable is defective , replace it with a new one which you can find for about $10 at most electronics and chain stores.

The last component to test is the circuit board. This is a bit of a grey zone as you probably won't be able to spot the blown component unless it failed really badly. With the casing already opened , locate the external's circuit board and check to see if you have any blackened components or fluids leaking from some components. If all the other components of the external worked perfectly , then this is the faulty part. It is not really economical to replace the circuit as most of the time it is out of production by the time you need to replace it and it still costs a lot even if it is available so if your drive is working perfectly when connected via sata or IDE on your computer , the best is to buy a new casing and place your old drive in the new casing.

A casing costs about $50 and you could get it at most tech shops and big chain stores like Best Buy.

I hope this solves your problem and please reply if you need more help.

Kind Regards
Andrea

Computer no longer reads drive

It sounds like a permissions issue, allways repair permissions after an update and dont use the machine while installing updates. If it will not repair permissions from disc utility then boot from the install disc, select language and on the page that appears there is a menu bar at the top, select utilities and disc utility and use that.

Toshiba 1tb external hard drive won't connect

One or more of the hints below will probably sort out most USB problems with most USB portable / external hard drives and OTHER devices (though not always)

1. Ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability

2. Use only the cables that came with it NOT one that fits that may have been lying around or is longer.

3. Do not connect through an external USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.

4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply Don’t use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating e.g. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly.

5. Always use the same port for connecting your devices. Some devices do not like being switched about. If switched they may want to install software / drivers again. This can be especially true if you move a HUB to another port

6. If none of the above steps help look at updating the drivers from the manufacturers web site in the support section.

7. If you checked and fixed anything there and still have issues then check your hardware from CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE.
Any exclamation marks by hardware need fixing before you investigate any further

8. ensure that you have set removable drives for "quick removal" or that you use the "Safly Remove Hardware" option often shown on the lower toolbar. It is possible that files my not be fully written to external devices before they are removed. This corrupts the file itself and even on occasion the drive.

SPECIAL NOTES
USB hard drives should be treated with extreme care.
This is a real hard drive ! and knocks and bumps can quite literally kill them.

Note that if you hear a drive clicking or pinging this could be the worst thing you would hear.
Known as "The Click Of Death"

Hope this gives you the information you need

I have external hard disk but after fromatting it

I would try to reboot the computer and see if it recognize it then, if not follow these steps the start the usb.

To initiate recognition of the USB device by using Device Manager,
follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type Devmgmt.msc, and then click OK. The Device Manager window opens.
2. Click to select your computer as the location for the scan.
3. On the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes.

Windows XP recognizes the new device.
4. Close the Device Manager window.

If this method resolves the issue, you are finished.
However, these steps may be different depending on the Operating system you are using. let me know the OS you are using and if this works for you, so i could be of greater help.

Usb 2.0 portable drive has (5pin mini) will only

Suggestions:
(best to worst)
1. Use a "Y" USB cable with that drive.
2. Use a shorter USB cable.
3. Use the new cables with the canon
4. Use a 2.0 hub

The drive should have come with a "split" USB cable (USB "Y" cable). The drive requires a "data" and a "power" connection to your computer.
Get one at Radio Shack, Best Buy, Office Depot/Max... ($10)... or Dollar store ($1.09)

My toshiba usb external harddisk

Well, a solution of sorts.

I had the same problem with a Maxtor 500g.
Eventually what I did was crack open the case to discover the HD is a SATA with a small circuit board that converts it to USB. I got rid of the circuit board and just plugged it into my system. Have not had a problem since.
I know this is not solving your problem but if the unit is dead and you cannot exchange it for a new one, you could at least get some use out of it.
Obviously I can't guarantee that what is inside your toshiba is the same as what was inside my maxtor.

Toshiba washing machine model AW-DK1700WMM has turn on, beeps with error code EL then shut down within 5 seconds, how can I slove this problem?

To fix the EL error code: * Make sure the door is completely closed and latched securely. A loose or broken latch can cause the error. *Examine the door lock for any damage, dirt, or debris that could prevent it from working properly. Clean the area thoroughly. * Turn off the washing machine, then unplug it for a few minutes. Plug it back in and restart it. This may resolve communication issues that trigger the error. * Examine the wiring connections between the door lock system and the control panel. Faulty connections, such as loose or damaged wires, can disrupt communication and lead to the error message.

Toshiba Strata CHSU40A3 no display or tone

If your Toshiba Strata CHSU40A3 phone system is not displaying anything and there is no dial tone, there could be a few reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
  1. Check the power source: Make sure the phone system is plugged into a functioning power outlet and the power adapter is working correctly. You may also want to try plugging it into a different outlet to see if that helps.
  2. Check the connections: Make sure all the cables and cords are connected properly. If the phone is connected to a network, check the network cables as well.
  3. Reset the phone: Try resetting the phone system by unplugging it from the power source and plugging it back in after a minute. This will help to clear any issues with the phone system.
  4. Check for any damage: Inspect the phone system for any physical damage, such as cracks or breaks in the casing or any loose components. If you find any damage, the phone system may need to be repaired or replaced.
If none of these troubleshooting steps work, you may need to contact a professional to diagnose and repair the issue with your Toshiba Strata CHSU40A3 phone system.
