This problem is caused by Word opening the document in "reading view," which is a new way of viewing documents added in Word 2013. This view restricts you from editing the document (it is intended as a sort of e-reader type view).
To edit the document, you simply need to switch to the normal "print layout" view. You can do this by clicking the View tab at the top and then clicking Edit Document. (You can also click the "print layout" view button at the bottom-right corner of the window, next to the "zoom" control.)

Hello Robert,
Typically drivers can be found on the manufacturer's website. Below is a link to Acer's driver page.
http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers
You can look it up by model, or simply put in your serial number to quickly find your machine and download the appropriate drivers there.

Best regards!

Hello Audrey,

Even though a lot of things might have gone wrong and caused this, especially if where you place the laptop is not well ventilated, and the CPU becomes very hot.

It then shuts down automatically or freezes...and you will have to wait for a few moments, get a cool environment and power it on.

But I will also try and tell you some troubleshooting steps that you can try.

1.) First of all, disconnect your battery from back of the laptop, and try to power your laptop without the battery there, if it powers up, then just get a new battery.

2.) If it is as a result of your processor over-heating, maybe because of your environment, or because the fan is not cooling the processor properly again... probably you use the laptop on the bed a lot, thereby blocking the vents

Try out this quick tip, locate the air-vents on the laptop and use your mouth to blow air into it and see if dusts comes out, and also see if it changes anything.

A more technical suggestion would be for you to unscrew your laptop (If you can do it by yourself), and try to clean, or better still replace your processor fan.

If you cant do it by yourself, you can easily get a technician to do it for you.

These are some things you can try out yourself first to be able to have an idea of what is wrong with the laptop.

Try them out and let me know how it goes.

Goodluck and thanks for using fixya.

The most common reason for lack of wi-fi is that the laptop maker put a hard-to see switch somewhere on the rim of the chassis. My Acer 3003lci has it disguised as an activity light on the front-center edge; if you acidentally press it, there's a light 'click', the orange light goes out, and the wi-fi device is turned off. Press it again, it's back on and takes a minute to find and reconnect to wi-fi. Others I've helped have HP laptops, where the switch is a slider with the tiniest blue pin-light to show whether it's on or off.

The 2nd most common reason is that Windows, in its infinite wisdom, thinks it can run the laptop's wi-fi device better than the device's firmware, and disables the device driver in favor of its own. If you tinker with the settings, you can fix this, but it requires much patience.

Hi

It might be the your computer does not receive enough power supply. Either you battery charger is not working or you have problem with power jack connector issue.

First try connect your laptop with charger only (without battery) and check if battery lights up. If no, try other battery charger.

If stil the same, it might be the power jack connector that is faulty and needs replacement. I recommend you to service it to a computer technician to replace this parts.

Please rate and make a comment if you find this solution very helpful and might help others as well. Post more comments if you need more help.

Regards and thank you for using Fixya !

If the number 1 keys does not work in any program or notepad and tested in all applications where you can type then it pretty much concludes that the key is physically broken. If you hook up an external usb keyboard to your laptop and the number 1 key works then that's your answer. You can get a replacement laptop keyboard for your notebook or as a temporary solution use external one.

Hi,
Try holding the fn & F5 buttons down for a good few seconds. Try fn and F7 too.
Right-click on the desktop and choose properties, and see if the 2nd monitor is recognised or not.
It might be a duff VGA cable, or crappy MS drivers instead of the real thing. Always worth downloading some fresh ones.

These are the steps that you need to take, and the instructions on how to do it:
1. Reboot into Safemode
2. Run a virus and spyware scanner
3. Defrag
4. Scandisk
5. Registry error repairing
6.Reboot into regular mode windows

Here is how to do it:
Reboot yor machine while holding the F8 key right as it boots back up. A menu will apear. Choose -->"start windows in safe mode with networking".
Windows will start in safe mode. Run an AVG virus scan, then run Defrag by exploring your computer, right click on C: drive, click PROPERTIES, then the TOOLS tab, click the "check now" button, and only checkmark the top box 'fix file system errors', then click ok, the computer will then tell you it will scan upon next reboot., Now click the DEFRAG NOW button. the choose defrag. After Defrag runs for about an hour and it is finished, restart the system. If is still won't run normally, go back into Safemode buy pressing F8 on reboot, then run a registry fixing program such as uniblue registrybooster, then reboot again. If it still won't run right, you may want to reinstall Windows and see if that works. If reinstalling windows doesn't fix it, it may be a hardware problem.
PRINT THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND KEEP A COPY NEAR YOUR SYSTEM FOR FUTURE PROBLEMS. THIS SERIES OF STEPS CAN FIX MANY PROBLEMS
Good luck.
James.

You can use the Toshiba Satellite 5205 guide for removing and replacing the DVD/CD-ROM drive or the keyboard. On this model you have to remove the keyboard in order to remove and replace the DVD/CD-ROM drive because the optical drive securing screw is located under the keyboard. Always start laptop disassembly with removing the battery or you can damage the system board if you accidentally touch it with a screwdriver and shorten traces. Removing the keyboard strip is not very difficult, use your fingers to release the plastic latches. If you want to replace the keyboard, do not forget to unlock the connector on the system boar before you pull the cable.

for the acer 3000
1. At the back of the laptop remove the three screws on the support posts for the screen
2. Open the laptop fully and lift the plastic panel that has the power button.
3. Remove the 2 screws holding the keyboard in place
4. Carefully slide the keyboard towards the monitor and lift.
5. To the left of the keyboard ribbon cable is the screw that's been causing all this grief.
6. Remove, slide out optical drive, reassemble.

Check power adapter’s DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.
If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.
