Rta International Patio Heater Questions & Answers
Not getting any propain to
First check the gas, connect the regulator to the cylinder but unclip the hose and do not light the heater. Turn the gas on for a second to see if the regulator is working OK. Next make sure there are no blockages in the pipes up to the burner. If all clear then vent the pipes to clear all air. If still not getting any gas the problem could be a faulty tilt switch cutting the gas supply or a worn thermocouple. Short out the tilt switch to test and if not fixed then change the thermocouple. Can establish pilot flame but
The first thing to wear out is a
thermocouple, these will cause the pilot to go out when you turn to full. To check if the tilt switch is working just short it out by joining the leads up. Found this site very useful in solutions to

You didn't specify which model you have (Table Top or Tall Patio Heater). In any event, it doesn't matter, as LP and Propane are one in the same. However, it can not be converted to Natural Gas. Rita makes a separate Natural Gas model for that type of hookup.

Gas Valves are not meant to be repaired only replaced. So I would have them replace the part and have them warranty there work. If the heater is very old and the replacement part is going to be half the cost of a new one You might want to put that Money on a new one and get a New manufactures warranty in the deal. Just another point of view....... Hope this helps

On my patio heater the
Check
that the pilot light is directed at the thermocouple, a copper 'tube'
that heats up when the pilot light is lit. You should be able to see a
copper coloured small tube that the pilot light is directed at - if the
pilot flame is not heating that tube then the main burner will not
light.
If the thermocouple is being heated correctly, then it
could be a fault with the thermocouple itself (can be replaced) or the
gas valve.
If the pilot flame is not heating the end of the
thermocouple you should be able to adjust its position so that the pilot
flame is directed at it more accurately

Try having all propane turned OFF. some systems auto shut off for leaks. SO....if you have the valve turned on when you open the tank valve, safety systems stop flow.

The first thing I would do is verify that pilot orifice is open. It does't happen often but I have seen them come from factory not being drilled. It will be a extremly small hole and it doesn't take much to plug it.If it is not drilled I would return it to place of purchase for replacement. If it's partially plugged you can try blowing through it,or go to welding supply store and purchace a orifece cleaner and carefully try different sizes till you find right one.Very important do not force it or take any chance on enlarging hole. This can be dangerous,so be careful. If you think its the regulator I would take it to propane supplier and have them check it. Many will do this for free. Hope this helps. Thanks
