Our ISP is BellSouth. Our modem, a Westell model

I had the same thing happen to me on Sunday but, I have Verizon. My Westell went bad and they replaced it with a newer model Westell. To get things to run properly, I had to disconnect everything (Internet related) and run the cd that came with the modem / router. Now, everything works fine. If that won't get you up & running, I would call Bell South and have them walk through the settings with you.

Here are some troubleshooting steps that I suggest you try:

1. Check physical connections.

a. Connect the modem to the Internet port of the router. The Internet “i” LED on the front of the router should light up.
b. Connect the computer to one of the four LAN ports (i.e port 1, 2, 3 or 4) on the back of the router. The corresponding port light where you connected the computer should be lit up.

2. Access the router's web-based utility.

a. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
b. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
c. A window will prompt for a user name and password. By default, the user name is "admin" and the password is "password".

Note: If you were unable to access the router's web-based utility, you may reset the router to restore the settings to factory default.

To reset the router:

a. Please push the reset button at the back of the router and release after 30 seconds.

How to connect ruoter to internet

If you are connecting to either broadband cable or dsl you pretty much have the same steps. First hook up the modem (dsl or cable) with its own power cable and its own internet connection coming in (dsl will be a usually green phone cable)(cable will be a coaxial line that the cable guy already hooked up). Next get the netgear router and plug in its power cable somewhere near the modem, then plug in a preferably crossover ethernet cable to the uplink connection on the back of the netgear, should be on the same side as where the power cable went in. (and yes you can probably use a straight ethernet cable as well) Plug the other end of the ethernet cable into the only location it will go on the modem, both boxes should already be setup for use, if for any reason they do not work just pull the power on them both at the same time and wait a minute or two and replug them back in for power resets.

The software that came with the router will not

The software disk just walks you through the setup process and is not really needed. The router has a web interface and you configure it from a web browser. The only tricky part is to determine the default IP address of the unit and connect your PC to the unit to get to the web interface.
