Replacement DVD drive for a JVC-SR-DVM600
Hi,
There are three things you can do that will eventually give you a working solution. Depending on the level of problem. Start with 1 progress to 3 until it works.
1. Use a cleaning disc. (one that use an alcohol based liquid)
2. If the cleaning disc does not solve it, you can use an ear bud, with some iso-propyl alcohol to clean the DVD lens on the drive directly. (you have to open the player and the drive)
3. The guaranteed working solution is to replace the DVD drive inside the player. This is quite a simple process, as most players use a standard IDE DVD-ROM or DVD writer.
You simply remove the face plate, (apply power to the drive, and press eject first) the tray will open. Unclip the tray face, and then with the tray open you can unclip the plastic face plate too.
Remove the old drive, and fit the new drive by reversing the removal procedure.
Once everything is assembled you should be able to watch DVD's again. If you can't find a cheap DVD drive locally, try ebay.
I have done this on over 50 players for my clients in the past. I use LG DVD roms and DVD writers for the DVD recorders, irrespective of brand.
Let me know how it goes.
For my jvc sr-dvm600 the record times for DVD for
Your HD is full, I had the same problem, even if you think its empty or it shows empty the "library" record function is recording it to the library. to delete you have to be in dvd mode, not hd mode, press edit, hi-light and delete one at a time. to stop this in the future, just shut off library mode in the setup menu. I had deleted my hd in hd mode and them found out that everything was backed up in my recycly bin from day 1 and had to manually delete in dvd mode even though its not on the dvd, weird. figured it out tonight and I was going to send in for repair tomorrow. hope this helps

Usually the laser lens is dirty, or the laser or focusing mechanism is not working. Very rarely, the spindle mechanism is the problem (not spinning because of motor failure or improper engagement of the spindle hub with the disk). In some players, the spindle motor does not start until the optical system signals that it is able to read the disk. This is not necessarily correlated to the spinning disk symbol on the display.
How to finalize dvd
Hello,
follow the steps below:
- Open the DVD creation software of your choice. Exact steps will vary
based on the software you choose. Nero and Sonic are two popular
choices.
- Create a new DVD project or open an existing project. You will need a
blank DVD or an un-finalized DVD with an existing project on it in your
DVD burner.
- Add any files to your project. All programs have an "Add Files" and
"Browse" button in order to add files. To remove any files, select the
files in the list and press "Delete." Be sure your project is exactly
like you want it before proceeding.
- Press "Burn" to burn you project or changes to DVD.
- Press "Finalize" or "Finalize Project" when prompted. There will be a
prompt after the burn process has completed. If you don't see a prompt,
look at the options menu that is to the left or top of the screen.
Select "Finalize" or run your mouse over the toolbar buttons until you
find the "Finalize" button. Select or press "Finalize" to finalize your
DVD project. Select "Ok" or "Yes" to confirm.
- Eject your DVD and test it in a regular DVD player. A regular DVD
player is one that doesn't burn DVDs and is more than likely a portable
DVD player or one that is connected to your television.
Take care.

It sounds like the rails that the laser runs along have debris on them.
Or, there's a firmware bug in the unit.
Check into restoring factory defaults. I did the same on a Philips DVD recorder and it came back
The display on my SR-DVM600 gradually faded until
could be one of two problems. either display power suppy missing due to dry joints or main power supply on its way out with component failure - best you get it seen to before it costs you more with a dead unit

HI,
You don't have to use force here u just open top cover detach the dvd compartment and replace the loading tray motor belt they do expand after a period of time thus making the cd tray to open.
This is where u can use your screw driver to remove your cd by opening the screws on the cd cover compartment .

Final Cut does not recognize DVM600
This is supposedly the formula to fix the problem of getting Final Cut to communicate with the DVM600:

My friend had to do this on his machine, but now that I'm borrowing his DVM600, I can't get it to work on either of my Macs.
JVC SR-DVM600 Dubbing from HDD to DVD Problem
Have you tried using a different brand disc. When I first purchased my DVM-600 it would not record on Memorex discs. I purchased TDK -R discs and all is fine. In the old-school analog world, all specific format tapes were computable to all machines. In other words, a VHS tape recorded in your VHS recorder will play back in my machine and every other VHS machine. Because the DVD format has so many formats and standards, compatability issues are quite common.
