I am getting extremely faint sound from the left

If you switch the cables so the left channel plays into the right of the amp and the sound stays dead in the left channel of the amp it's not the cartridge that is at fault by your amp. Amps have a magnetic cartridge pre-amp built into them for turntables. This can go faulty, but won't effect any other device (CD etc). Most of these pre-amps are a single IC. Which will need to be replaced.

Both my decks have no power to them I have checked the fuses but they are fine

So you're saying you have two different turntables and that both of them are dead? Could have a power supply issue or even just a power switch bad. For more information, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. Thank you.

Left channel suddenly gone quiet, left channel

Hi, firstly switch the output rcas over on your amp/mixer and see if the problem stays in the left channel or has now gone to the right. If it stays in the left it is a problem with your amp/mixer. If it moves to the right the problem is in the turntable. Likely causes for turntable problems are cartridge being damaged or stylus damage. If you have another cartridge try that. Cheers john

Left channel not producing any sound, right side

Disconnect the wires to the cartridge. With the amp on. Touch each wire (one at a time) with your finger. Two of the wires should buzz (1 left, 1 right) if the left doesn't buzz either the connections are faulty or the pre-amp in your amp is.If you get a buzz on the left, replace the cartridge.

Platter jurk

Not a pitch issue. This is a drive issue. The drive circuits are located underneath the turntable platter, on the main PCB. They usually go bad, more recently then before, unfortunately.

Not an easy fix, but not an expensive fix either, as the components are relatively cheap. It is time consuming, and if you have someone work on it who doesn't know what they are doing, could run up a nice tab on the repair. So be careful where you take it to. Ask them if they've worked on Drive Issues on 1200s before. If they look at you like, huh? STAY AWAY.

M5g does not keep speed

Your belt is probably worn and needs replacing. Lift felt on platter and and lift the platter section off the unit by putting your thumb and forefinger through the two large holes and pull upwards. There should not be any special routing for the belt and should go directly onto the spindle motor to your platter. Place the belt around the inside rim of the platter while it is still off the unit. Now replace the platter and move the platter around until you see the spindle motor through one of the holes. Use some tweezers to manouvre the belt onto the spindle motor. On some units you will have to lay the belt out inside the unit, replace the platter and manouvre the belt onto the platter. Hope this helps

Stiff Pitch Adjustment

What did you open up? The top of what? If you could be specific, I can direct you.

If your pitch is stiff, try spraying some contact cleaner or similar - DO NOT USE WD40. Use an electrical contact cleaning solution, such as CAIG DEOXIT or CAIG FADERLUBE both work very well, and are good for electronic contacts.

If this does not work, then maybe the pitch control knob/shaft is slightly bent? Any physical damage?

Other than that, there isn't a whole lot you can do, unless you replace the pitch control - Technics Pitch Control.

Hey...

Most sound problems are caused by cartridges. However in some cases the deck is not to blame, but the amp it is connected to is. If you have another amp make certain the problem is with the deck, by trying it on that first. Remember that other devices can work fine on your amp, but the turntable might not. This is because your amp has another pre-amp just for turntables. It could be this pre-amp that is causing the problem!

Some of those locking mechanism work wonderfully, others are flimsy. As long as your tonearm doesn't shake when a record plays, you'll be fine.

Pitch problems

You would need to calibrate them to each other. Not very difficult, but not that easy either.

I would suggest taking it to a service center, and ask them to calibrate the turntables to each other. It's a matter of adjusting VR302, which is located underneath the turntable platter. You'll also need a frequency counter or similar - which aren't cheap.

Techics sl-1210s m3 turntable spins back on itself

You have a fault on the quartz-lock speed control electronics. It may be a simple fix, it may be not.

It will require specialist investigation. A Technics dealer should be able to advise you, and arrange shipping back to Technics for repair if you decide that is the best thing to do.
