You will want to check in Device Manager to see if the device is even detected by the computer. Right Click My Computer, Properties, Click Hardware Tab and Device Manager. If it isn't recognizing the DVD drive then it is most likely bad.

A great tool for a non destructive computer clean is tuneup utilities 2009.

If you want to wipe the machine, backup any important files, Backup your computer's drivers (if you don't have them on cd).
Then pop your windows disk in and run it, in windows, it should take you through everything. Allow about 2 hours.

Appears that recovery disk #2 is bogus. U can try to get a new set from HP (fat chance!) or you can do a reload from a normal, retail OS disk.

If the fan making a smooth spin, but the noise is too loud, then it means the fan is trying to dissipate the heat. Probably the air inlet and or the air outlet (also the fan itself) is dirty (or clogged) and you need to clean it up using a canned air. You may need to open the case/body if the dust become a dust ball (and you need a tweezer and qtip to pickup the dust ball and clean up the fan blades).

try using a can of Air Duster on the bottom of CP57 where your fan is located to clean out the heatsink allowing your system to stay on and figure out the issue.
