Most likely something went wrong with the file system - it was corrupted because you have some time ago disconnected it when it was still being used (you haven't used the Safely Disconnect option).
To recover the data use something like http://findandmount.com/
or http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/Recuva.shtml

With Windows Media Player open, hit the F3 key. You get an Add To Library window providing you with an option to sync folders from other sources...like an external hard drive.
Select the option to add My folders and those of others I can access. Then you click the Add button.
Now you can see the Add Folder window. Search for the folder where you stored your music on the external hard drive and select it. Then click the OK button.
This will add the selected folder on the external hard drive to the list of synced folders. Once the Add Folder window disappears, Windows Media Player starts syncing the music and adding it to it's library.

Power usage is stamed on the case.Don't go over recommended power input. It's also marked on the units power adapter as output.THAT's what you want to find out.Whatever the original adapter says for output on the case,is all that's required to operate.
