I want to remove existing music
You cannot delete existing mp3 files/directories directly from the player but it is possible from the computer. Connect your mp3 player to a PC using the USB cable. It should become visible as a mounted removable drive.
If you can't see it, go to settings -> system and switch the UMS mode at the bottom of the list so it can become visible.
You should be able to see the drive in windows explorer and on Windows, you may even be asked as the drive connects if you want to view files,
Simply go to the directory structure, click through to music and delete files/folders that you no longer want. You can copy over new files from wherever you store your music, too. It's the same connection/viewing process.
Samsung YP-Z5 has locked up while playing. Cannot exit, or change, or shut it down
This is the same problem I have! Try cleaning the resistive touch-pad (located under the sticker in the center) and the ribbon wire connecting it (green and flat with 4 strips of metal in it) with a bit of Windex or rubbing alcohol. The pad has various wires of different resistances in it and when certain groups are connected (touched) their resistance combines. For this to actually work, the pad has to be super clean and free of any corrosion. This picture shows the buttons and the ribbon wire:

Try to take apart the player and disconnect the battery for a few minutes, then reconnect, reassemble and try charging it over the USB cable. It appears that some people have had some success after full disconnection of the battery from player.
Alternatively, try eBay for a new battery - there are plenty there.
How do you turn off
Press and hold the bottom bar of the square ridged around the central button. This is the bar you press to play/pause and start up the player. It should have a power button symbol on it.

My Samsung YP-Z5 player wont respond to charging.
Yes, they only last two to three years.
A search of eBay, a place i look to check availability gives a number available.

If you are able to open up the case You could cut off the existing battery leads close to the battery and join the two wires. Soldering is preferred if you have an insulated tip soldering iron.
Otherwise twisting the wires together is probably good enough.
Tape the joins to strengthen and insulate them.
