It may be in the safety shutdown mode due to shorted circuits or failed power supply due to bad caps, I would inpsect the power supply first for caps with doemd tops.

The first place to look will be the power supply, inspect it for bad caps with leaking/bulging top.
You can learn more here before DIY. If you really need to get down deep to component level, you will need the service manual.

Well your suspicion is probably right. Check for bad caps on the Power supply board. Usually you will see bad caps visually. They will be leaking or buldging tops. make sure to check to make sure caps are all discharged these things can kill you even when the set is unplugged. Capacitors hold a wallop of a charge.

had a very similar situation with my Phillips 42 in. LCD TV.

Here was my Problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened it up( Warranty was Expired) and found several faulty capacitors on the PSB. Its pretty common. Major Electronic companies were sold faulty capacitors that fail in 2-5 years instead of 10-20 due to a lack of preservatives. It wouldn't surprise me if you have the same problem. TV will work fine for a few years and then just fail completely or slowly deteriorate.

Here are the solutions
1. Have it Repaired
2. Check for faulty caps and if you find some(budged or leaking) you know you have located a problem
Remove the board and replace the whole thing.
3. If you have some soldering skills you can replace the faulty caps.
Caps are very inexpensive, under a dollar in most cases. I replaced 4 for about $5.00

Hope this Helps.
Good Luck

I don't know of "Kit" available for Akai. All values are labeled on the caps that you need. Radio Shack would be a good place to start.

First off thanks for using Fixya.com Expert community.

Here are steps to try before chucking this tv in the garbage.

1. unplug the tv from the outlet if you have not already.
2. Plug it back in the outlet and try to give it the power button.

If those steps do not work:

Your going to need a new power supply (kinda expensive)

Click here for a replacement power supply about $90 bucks

I hope you find this site Very Helpful! Thanks for using Fixya.com

Good luck!

your power supply is defective try to check swollen capacitors in the power supply but be sure to unplug it before opening it .if you see one replace it with the same value but observe the polarity the marked side of the capacitor is the negative.

If sound quality is poor in both speakers and with all inputs, the main board must be replaced.

Hello,

your TV is having a power problem. The problem is either from the power board or line transformer of the TV.

Use a meter to read the power board in other to detect the problem.

Once the bad component is detected, make necessary replacement and your TV will power on again.

Good luck.
