Its because they use cheap parts there are 19 capacitors in the power supply (DONT RECOMMEND FOR NON EXPERIENCED PEOPLE) the 2 main filter capacitors are 100uf450v the ones in mine are just fine then there are 3x 1000uf16v, 2x 470uf16v, 3x 470uf25v, 2x 1000uf25v, 6x 1000uf35v, and 1x 470uf35v... Im in the process of replacing those capacitors. about half of them are leaking and 1 is blown... very dangerous for anyone messing around back there.. just thought i would let everyone know that its a 20 dollar repair if you know what you are doing i got my caps at marvac.com

Your TVs power regulator board has damaged. It has to be replaced as card basis. No repair can be done with this board. Check first for any bulged capacitors in that power supply board. If there is, replace them with same type and capacity. This is the only repair which can be done with that board. it is best to replace it, rather than making "sugery" to it. I hereby attaches two pictures, to give you an idea about what a bulged capacitor may be. Picture of two boards, the orginal power supply board of your TV, and an other board to show how bulged capacitors look like.

gopakumarg43_27.jpgThis is the picture of the power supply board of your TV, which has been damaged.

gopakumarg43_28.jpgThis is an other TVs board, in which you can see "bulged" capactors marked with red arrow. You can see a good one at the top right of the picture with Flat top.

Good afternoon! My name is Becki, with DISH. I hope that you have gotten this resolved, but if not, here are some steps to do so!

If you are at TV1, where the receiver box is located, the tv needs to be on channel 3 or 4. (The correct location for these on the back of the recever will have a TV 3/4 above it.)
If you are using an HDMI cable, then the TV will need to be on an HDMI input
If you are using Component cables, your TV will need to be on a component input. (Usually Comp 1 or 2)
If you are using RCA cables, then the TV will need to be on a VIDEO input (Usually Video 1 or 2) (The correct location for these on the back of the receiver will have a green TV symbol with a 1 in it.)
Please let me know if you need any further assistance!!

this is what i would do,i would buy some component coolent(radio shack),wait half an hour to the symptom appear and spray the compoments to see if the symtoms go away.most likely thats the component thats breaking down under heat.most likely is an electrolytic capacitor.i had similar problem.

Good day!

This are the steps to find and fix that problem.

  1. Open the cover of your TV.
  2. Disconnect the input supply of system board or main board that comes from the power supply unit.
  3. Power ON the TV to check the voltage reading of disconnected connector to the input of system board by using voltmeter.
  4. Check the 5vdc and 12vdc by using voltmeter. If you got voltage reading of 5vdc and 12vdc,try to connect the input connector of the system board and check the voltage again. If no voltage when you connect it.There's a shorted parts on your system board.Replace the whole system board because its very difficult and expensive to repair it.
  5. When the input voltage of system board doesn't have 5vdc and 12vdc even disconnected on the board. The problem is on power supply.
Check the following:
  • Fuse-Check the fuse if busted.
  • Transistor and diode-Check the transistor and diode if shorted.
  • Resistor-Check the resistor if open/change value.
  • Capacitor-Check the capacitor if leak/bulge on top.
If you found the defective parts that mention above.Replace it with the same type and ratings.
NOTE:If the following parts are OK and the problem is still there. The power supply have major problem and its not for D.I.Y..

Thank you and good luck

I bought one of these tv's at a thrift store and it had the same problem, orange light blinking and static sound coming out of the speakers, no video at all.
The problem was the power supply board, this power supply has multiple outputs that feed the circuitry, 12V, 24v, 5V.
There was nine electrolitic capacitors I had to replace to fix it, all of them were bulged they are easy to spot, I measure one of them that was supposed to measure 1000uF but measured only 65uF. you can buy these from digikey for about 50 cents each, they need to be rated at 105 deg c and the profile has to be below the heat sink otherwise they will hit the top of the heat sink, the spacing between the leads has to be 5mm so they fit in the pcb. I replaced 3 1000uF/25v, 3 470uF/16v and 3 1000uF/16v and that fixed the problem, I bought this tv broken for 100 bucks fixed it with 6 bucks.
Good luck, don't perform repair if you are not familiar with dangerous AC voltage inside the TV.

the tv have a 1 or 2 long board that call the LCD inverter boards are dead. These 1 or 2 long LCD inverter boards only job are to help to the CCFL LCD screen tubes to provided a backlight for the tv LCD screen panel to produce a picture.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy those 1 or 2 refurbishes LCD inverter boards for the replacement.but if otherwise, The T-CON board is usually under a metal shield cover and sitting on the middle top section of the screen, you will see a very thin connector with VERY SMALL WIRE attached to it, be real careful when you try to remove this connector.
If you can see, there is F1 fuse on the left side of the connector.
Check to see if you do have 12v on it and it is not blown, if blown replace, but do take care in handling the Television set because it contain high voltage.....

Good day!

Please before we go to the further troubleshooting please to play a DVD or recorded shows to determine if the problem is in your TV or cable connections.

If the problem persist please try to replaced this simple procedure on how to fix that problem.

  1. Remove the back cover of your TV.
  2. Check the 24vdc from the power supply going to inverter board using multimeter tester (range on DC)
  3. If you have 24vdc on the input voltage of inverter board, try to check the output voltage of that board,it should have 500vdc going to the cathode light inside of TV (back light)
  4. If you don't have the 24vdc on the inverter it means your power supply got trouble.
  5. You have better chances if you have failing capacitors on the power supply.Just look the image of capacitor if it is leak/bulged on the top.
If the problem is still there and you have other question just add a comment

I hope this solution will be helpful.Thank you for using FixYa.

akai LCT2715 keeps shutting off or making a loud screaming noise that can only be turned off by shutting it down at the the tv

This series of TVs has a famous issue with the power board (part number MLT166A or similar). Several capacitors and zener diodes burn out causing some resistors to burn as well. If you are capable of doing component level repairs check capacitors on the board and zeners Z2, Z3, Z4, Z5 and resistors around them. If you prefer to spend hundred bucks and simply buy the working power board for it - ebay is your answer.

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.
  • No video, Power light is on or blinking.
  • TV is making a clicking noise.
  • TV takes a while to come on
  • Screen is very dim or flickers.

Again, You can get a power supply repair kit with the parts, detailed instructions, and support from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com . Or just click here to see more details on their kit.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.

Capacitor being replaced! Fairly easy DIY fix.

The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.

The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board. You might be lucky it's just a blow fuse. Also a defective transformer can cause your TV not to power on.

All these can be checked on the power supply board.

But more often bad capacitors causes problem on the power supply board. I do not think the power board needs replacement, rather those defective capacitors is causing this issue. Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.

The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)

You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.

What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).

You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors). After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored. Or you can by a refurbished complete power board to save you some stress.

Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.

If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.
