Ok based on the little info you gave you may need to place the cable from the dish box into the ant 2 connection on the tv, that is the analog cable connection, ant 1 is for digital tv only, also if you have rca jacks you need to change the source on the tv to av or svideo.

well you will have to see what you can do to clean up the remotes contacts, use a little baking soda and water to clean out the inside with a towel and then clean up the contact surface of the spring and the flat side, cleaning off the rust and acid burn should give you enough contact to get a good pair of Duracell's to work and you can remote the stretch off.
it is imperative to get the remote working, even if some one needs to rebuild the contact area from old parts from some other device with batteries.

power pack most likely they blow capacitors all the time easy fix for some one who can solder.

I have a 32 inch Akai that does this from the built in DVD player mode I would try to get into the advanced video options on the menu I don't have a remote so I can only advise that far

The power supply is defective if the TV fails to power up or the front light just blinks, common failure on these LCDs with MLT166A power supplies.

LCD TV TroubleshootingThe defective LCD TV may have the following common symptoms:

Try reset .

Unplug the unit from power chord for 30 minutes and plug back the power chord to the unit .

Sounds like the audio amplifier circuit is bad. I do not know if where that is in that TV. If you were to hook a boom box or stereo receiver to the TV (via the audio out jacks on the TV), you could monitor the sound that way. If you get clean sound, then the problem is in the amplification circuitry. If you still get humming, etc., then the problem is further upstream.

Also, clarifying... the picture has not changed one iota, correct?

By crystal I would assume they perhaps meant a pixel on the display and that basically cannot be repaired cheaply (would require a new screen). However, if they were basically giving away the tV and you could ignore the flaw (there would probably be a small black dot that would never change) it might be worth a look.
