You can purchase an add in wireless card that plugs into the main board in the printer for a stand alone wireless printer. You can connect an Ethernet cable and run it right into your router, and your router will assign it an address. You can also just hook it up via a USB cable to your desktop, and share it, and your desktop. You will want to establish a Home Group if you have not done this yet, with all home computers on your homegroup using the same password. You can do this with any printer, you just need to share it.

For the 3100cn, once the web password has been set, you need to do a deep NVRAM reset to clear it. Before doing anything, print a Printer Settings page so you know what your printer settings are, espcially page count. I might advise dating and saving this for possible future reference Here's how to deep reset NVram for the 3000/3010/3100cn printers: 1. Pwr Off 2. Hold the Left + Right + Menu buttons while you Pwr-on (release them when display = DIAGNOSING...) 3. At the PASSWORD prompt, press UP, UP, [enter] (enter=center button) 4. Down button to INSTALLATION SET; [enter] 5. Down button to NVM Init; [enter] 6. OK?, [enter] 7. After completion message, Pwr off, wait 5 secs, then pwr on After pwr on, the LCD displays "Init NVram" & "Initializing", then completes POST with "Diagnosing". After printer completes POST, the toner level indicators on the LCD may show empty. The printer will need to be Pwr'd Off/On once again to correct display. I would try two steps: 1) Check the "pending documents" for your printer and make sure the printer queue is empty - delete any pending document. 2) Check the printer settings and make sure the default paper type is not set to "Executive".
