I own a Nikon D40, and have sent it for two estimates for repairs because it all of a sudden quit working and won't power on. Both estimates were over $300. They both say the Compression Board has failed, have you heard of this issue and is there a known dealer(reputable) that will repair for less or do I need to scrap the camera?

I accidentally deleted all the pictures files from DCIM file folder on the computer (Imac) using "move to trash" option instead deleted them using camera (nikon D40x) menu. Now, even there is no images on my camera I am getting "card is full message" and cannot use camera at all. I did not deleted NIKON001.DSC file just the picture files.
