Can I use a D-Link DI 634M as an access point?
Sure you can! As you can with any wireless router pretty much.
1. Assign the new router (AP) to an IP on your subnet that's not your existing router's IP... i.e. 192.168.0.2
2. Disable the DHCP server on the "AP"
3. Create a new wireless network on the "AP"
4. Plug your existing network/router into a LAN port
DO NOT USE THE WAN PORT
Voila! You have an access point!

You may check the firmware on the router by logging into router's web interface (usually it is 192.168.1.1). Check the existing firmware version. Also, verify from dlink website, if any new firmware version exists for your router model. If yes, upgrade the firmware of your router from a hardwired computer. After this step, powercycle the modem, router and your wireless laptop. Check if you are able to connect wirelessly.
Can a DLINK DI-634M WIRELESS
No, sadly it doesn't support WDS (Wireless Distribution System), most of the time I prefer Linksys routers since are easy to configure and WDS capable, if you get two of them I'm sure you can establish a WDS network easily.
I have a dlink model

How do I set up a password to secure my wireless
You need to log into the wireless router either by a computer that successfully connects wirelessly or by physically connecting with an ethernet cable. Once connected, log into the router by open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari), and typing the router's address (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) into the Address (or URL) line. The default usernameand password is usually "admin" & "admin" or "admin" & "password". Once successfully logged in, look for a tab or link that says "Wireless" or "Security". You'll be able to change whether security is enabled or disabled, and the password associated with it. Your security options are WEP or WPA (or WPA-PSK). WPA-PSK is the most secure, but WEP is also an acceptable choice. Select the security option of your choice and either enter text into the passphrase generator or choose your own password and type it into one of the security key text fields. If you use a password that is not a plain english combination of letters and numbers, be sure to write it down so that you can enter it as needed on other wireless devices that need to access your router (ie-pda phones, game consoles, laptops, desktops, etc). Be sure to save changes so that the security settings and password is saved.
Let me know how you make out.
I had to reset my
Hi there,
When you log in to the router, in the first tab (You should already be here by default after login), click on "Wireless" and use the following settings for greatest security:
1) SSID - Set an SSID, this can be any phrase that you like.
2) SSID Broadcast - Here you can use either of the settings. If you enable, any device will be able to detect the unit and then they just need to type your WEP key to gain access. If you disable, nobody, including yourself will be able to find the network as the SSID is hidden, instead your network will come up as "Other Network", you will then need to enter the SSID and WEP key to gain access.
3) Security mode - WEP
4) Authentication - Shared Key
5) WEP Encryption - Choose 64 bit
6) WEP Key 1 - Set a phrase that you will easily remember as you will need to use this on all the devices that connect to your network.
7) WPA Mode - WPA2
8) Cipher Type - TKIP
9) Passphrase - Type a passphrase and then confirm it
That's it!
Thank you for using FixYa! Have a great day and please remember to rate this solution.

Are you looking for the wireless network key or password ?
Is there any computer online using the router.
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router.
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
router set up page is the page where you can check all the router settings.
You will find the wireless network key or password on the set up page of the router.
WE HADA A POWER OUTAGE AND NOW THE WIRELESS IS NOT
Is the router plugged into the same power source (surge protector or power strip) as your computer? Try plugging it into a different outlet -- one that you know works -- and if the router doesn't turn on there then either your router is fried or the AC adapter that powers it is fried.
