Danby DAC5020 Air Conditioner fan works but not compressor

It could be as simple as being low on refrigerant. Depends on how expensive the unit is if its worth recharging and how big the unit is. Some small units will need to have a recharge point fitted which cost more of course.

Danby 12304D - no digital display

There is a plug that detaches when you take the front cover off which you need to do when you put it in or take it out. It may still be unplugged if you forgot to reconnect when you re-installed. You will need to unscrew the screws on side of front cover and I think there is one behind the filter that you will also have to remove. Plug the plug in and it should be fine. Let me know if this solves the problem.

Should i open or close

Close the vent for maximum cooling. When you open the vent it opens a panel to the outside air and the unit cools less efficiently.

I was given the Kenmore / Danby 461.35723-7 portable air conditioner by a friend. However, it blows air not chilled cold air.

Take it into a local refrigeration repair shop. It will save you the callout fee. It likely just needs a top up of refrigerant gas, as mine did.

I have a Danby DPAC 7008. How do you remove the complete outside cover?

You either start at the back or side covers. There are screws hidden under plastic plugs. Once you pop the plugs out its easy. Some internal screws are hidden under the panels you remove. Your manual as I looked up the model https://www.manualslib.com/manual/226727/Danby-Dpac7008.html ..

Danby 5000 waters nor draining, should i drill a hole and if yes where.

The 5000 is designed to evaporate all condensation produced. When on extremely hot and humid days if machine produces excess moisture it is normal for machine to drip from back. No, do not drill a hole. Your unit is ok.
