Sony KDS-R50XBR1 50" HDTV - Page 9 Questions & Answers
FLASHING POWER RED BUTTON 7 TIMES
I believe that is a bad power supply board. You can unplug set ,open the back access panel and look for swollen electrolytic capacitors they will most likely be slightly rounded on top instead of flat top like the others. Not sure if just replacing caps is enough we mainly swap out whole board. Some models' replacement power supply is slightly different from original in that a couple of the plugs are in different spots and require an extension cable.

Sony SXRD (KDS-R50XBR1) fan question
Try to access the self-diagnosis screen. With the TV off, push in sucession, the "mute, then the number "5" button, and then the volume down button, and finally the pwer button. When the picture comes on, there will be a list of different circuits and to the right are numbers which represent how many times that particular circuit had a malfunction. Sometimes the red blinking LED code is itself in error, so this may help to clarify the root cause of your problem. Now, if the TV will not stay on long enough to perform the previous operation, you should consider replacing the large exhaust fan that is in front of the lamp assy. This has been the problem fan in these sets.

Sony kds-r50xbr1 turns itself off and then green light blinks 52
I too have a Sony KDS-R60XBR1 tv and the issue that you are experiencing is due to one of your fans in the rear of the tv is not working. The tv automatically shuts off in protective mode. Make sure the POWER/STANDBY light is blinking and not the lamp light below it. Is the power/standby blinking 4 times in red? If, yes then its a fan that needs to be replaced. If its the lamp light blinking then you need to replace the lamp. The lamp is easy to replace by ordering the lamp either from Sony for $250 or find it cheaper for approx. $150 from other DLP sources and replace youself by following your manual. I hope this helps you.

Hi,
For some reason different models are coming out of the extended warranty at different times. If you have been told by Sony that it is no longer covered that's pretty much it unfortunately.

I think that is fan error you can remove back and make sure they are turning the lamp fan usually fails most. You can clean fans replug connections. You can try turning fan with a pencil to jump start it. If it starts to run it may only be temporary and fan would need replacement.
Need to change the bulb should I get the Sony 5100 or the Phillips or the Osram?
I have the KDS-R60XBR1 model and was told by Sony and Digital Lamp Seller you really want to replace your lamp bulb with only Certified Sony Replacement bulbs vs any aftermarket type bulbs. I would prefer looking on the internet to find these bulbs if you don't want to purchase from the Sony site. On the Sony site they are approx. $250 and I have seen these bulbs for $160 with the refurbished housing. Or you can buy the buld only $90 - $120 and change it yourself and it will take you approx. 10 -15 minutes to complete this task. Just make sure you do not touch the face of the bulb. Good luck!
Sony SXRD 60 in. won't power on
You need to replace your DLP lamp...easy fix that you can do yourself. If, you buy from the Sony website it will cost more. Try looking online and make sure the lamp is Sony Certified Replacement part and you should find the bulb by itself for $90 - $120 or cheaper or in a rebuilt housing for approx. $160.00
Sony KDS-R50xBR1 Needs projection lamp replaced
I bought a True replacement from the PartsStore through Amazon.com and it cost me about $185, but it was a Phillips bulb and the full cartridge replacement. I went with the aftermarket bulb only replacement the first time, lasted less than a week and haven't resolved that issue yet.
KDS-R50XBR1 50 in. HDTV Television: I can't get rid of the GREEN
Its another instance of the optical block (light engine) failure these
TVs are known for. Heat from the lamp has damaged the LCD panels in the light engine.
Sony has been directed by the attorney general's office in New York to warranty these TVs going back 4 model years. Call Sony at: 1-800-222-SONY for assistance.

If you are positive that the fan is still running and that it isn't an over heating issue, I would venture to say you need a new dlp lamp. Your model uses a
Sony XL 5100 dlp lamp. You can grab one over at DLPLamps.com.
Sony KDS-R50xbr1 50" Problems
Here's the best way to get
Sony's and/or the extended warranty company's attention and possible help.
Send an old fashioned letter to Sony and your extended warranty provider outlining the problems and your concerns regarding your
TV. Make sure to prominently indicate that a copy of the letter is being sent to the complaint division at the attorney general's office in your state. After having to settle claims surrounding their optical block (light engine) issues Sony now understands that failure to address their customer's complaints may result in another judgement against them.
Good luck and give 'em hell!

Noisey sonykds-r50xbr1
The fans continue to run after these TVs are turned off, so its likely that its one of the fans. The most likely fan is the exhaust fan that is in front of the lamp assy.
