Check out Consumer’s Guide for top 10 laptops. In my opinion a computer is a computer. It depends on what options or sales manufacturer is offering. I would recommend Dell products because of the in home service. I have worked on laptops for customers in RV’s, homes, tailgates of pick-up trucks, traveled by boat for ½ hr to customer’s home on island, etc. Will the laptop manufacture provide home service or do you have to send it back for repair? All my kids have Dell laptops and so do I.

just looking thru the question here and i seen your's.
what i reccomend for any user is to ask what are you using it for? bussiness/ personal/ gaming/ ripping dvd's, whatever it can impact on your choice. however i would,nt reccomend buying the latest and greatest, but rather something that is being used by other people, something that has a excellent support and quite common, simply because it will be easier and a little cheaper to repair, upgrade, etc. rather than a custom built jobby if you know what i mean. nearly all lappy's have built in wifi/bluetooth/ethernet and celluar devices so connection isn't a issue. graphics and cpu power come first then memory then look for blu-ray/ dvd cappabilities for the future. you cpu and memory will last for years but blu-ray/dvd/cd media of the like change fast.

probaly rabbled on a bit but i hope at least i have put food on the table for thought.

I can't advise you on freeware disk imaging software, do a Google search yourself, but I can highly recommend Symantec Norton Ghost.

Try holding your FN key near the bottom of your keyboard while pressing F8 at the same time. If that fails to work, navigate to Dell's support site and enter your service tag for the laptop (botton of the unit, usually 7 characters). This will allow you to download and install the latest video driver. Then try the FN+F8 trick again.

Hello, I can appreciate that it is a mechanical problem, you should check different physical components (please, if you do not know about it you should go to a mechanic) is not a simple problem, it may be necessary to replace some accessories, but ( if you wanna try at least the battery reset ) you can do some tests to have a little idea, I attach a video about it; I also attach an example of these errors-light signals (it does not matter if it refers to another model).

On most Dell's, when you start it up, for a brief moment, there is a black screen with <F2> for BIOS, <F12> for boot options. Instead of holding the F2 key, try pressing it multiple times before Windows logo shows.
Also - on some laptops, you can go into BIOS only from a complete shutdown state.

Do not turn off your Laptop for such long time. Keep your Laptop in use after 2-3 days regularly.

Anonymous,
The WIFI switch on the Latitude E5400 is located on the front edge of the system to the left. You can move it to the right or left to turn on or off.

Sounds like a damaged display or GPU. Try an external display to confirm either way.
