Battery dead garmin streetpilot c530
you have a battery for the wrong model, I think they also changed the configuration of the same model number so that it had to be returned for proper service. No matter what you do a 3 pin wont fit a 5 pin socket.

GARMIN LOCK
Hello!
Place your thumb nail in the groove located under the Garmin logo on the bezel.
Gently pull off the faceplate.
Press the reset button.
If it still asks for a code and you don't have it, it should ask you to drive to a secret location to unlock the device. If you don't know the location, the only other option you have is to send the unit to Garmin to be unlocked. You can also try to call Garmin with the serial number and see if they can do something less annoying to unlock it.

Turns off during "loading maps"
I had a the same problem but my ended up being a charging issue. My charger was broken and was not making contact. Went to local store and purchase a new one. After hours of looking on line beatting my head against the was and with plenty of reset and curse's. All I needed was a new charger.

Locked on enter pin screen
The only way to do this without driving to the secure place is to contact Garmin. You'll probably have to send the GPS to them to get unlocked, or perhaps they can unlock it over the phone if you have the serial number.

Do not remember my pin number can you help me please
well, try removing the battery and leaving it out for a bit. if that doesn't work, start systematically going through all of the possible combinations of numbers. it will take you a long time to do this. i know, it sucks. my friend did this to his cellphone. i think it took him more than two weeks to find the code.

Lock
If it is the garmin lock, then you need to take the unit to your sercure area, and the unit will unlock. This should be where ever it was you set up the unit.
If you don't remember either. Then the unit has to go back to Garmin to be unlocked.
.
Hope this is of some help.

Dead Garmin c550
had same exact problem. my unit would come on for a minute and then go black. if you take the silver ring around the face you will see the four screws to take the unit apart if you do have to replace the battery. however first try hitting the reset button on the right side of the unit. remember the cover needs to be off. i hit the reset and my unit powered on with no problems

Parts manual
You can download a Operating Manual at
http://www.garmin.com but I don't think there will be a parts manual available since Garmin considers their GPS system to be Not User Serviceable. I know that is not what you wanted to hear but that is the way it is.

Need parts
Garmin has a Flat Rate fee to rebuild all current GPS systems. You will probably find that they will rebuild the GPS cheaper that you can buy parts. Let me know if this resolves your problem.

Screen says memory full and it won't map a route! GRRRRRRR
Hi,
Please do not shoot the messenger (me) but this is a known problem with Garmin GPS units. According to Garmin Tech Support, this only occurs on Garmin units with older firmware. (Personally, I am not convinced this is actually true. I no longer have my Garmin C550, which I personally liked the best out of all the GPS units I have owned or used. I will buy another Garmin, probably a Nuvi, when this silliness sorts itself out.)
Anyway, you have two options, neither of them acceptable to most people, including me.
1)Perform a HARD RESET which will wipe out all data on your unit, including your favorite points, Bluetooth connections, and almanac data (satellite information). Your unit will then need at least 40 minutes, with a clear view of the sky, to update the almanac and reacquire its location.
To HARD RESET, unplug your C550 from the charger and turn it off. With the C550 screen facing you, press the bottom right hand corner of your screen and hold in (relatively firmly) and then press and hold POWER. You need hold both constantly for at least 30 seconds. Follow the instructions on the screen.
See if any of your personal information is still there. If there is none, then you might as well perform Step 2 below.
2)Download and Load New Firmware onto the C550.
Upgrading firmware is relatively easy provided you have a computer. Visit Garmin's website (www.garmin.com). Go to "Support" .. "Updates and Downloads" and then click "Unit Software." Download the software called WebUpdater. Run that and follow its directions.
The new Firmware (Software that is loaded into internal memory that does not need power to remember the information) hopefully will fix the MEMORY FULL problem.
Good Luck and please post back if the fixes helped or not. I really want the new firmware to work so I can buy another Garmin.

Was working then randomly and then stopped altogether
you will need to reset the unit by pulling off the face plate. once you unplug and power off the unit, hold the reset button down for 5 secs. after you release the reset button, power back up the device and it will be normal.
