I have a macbook pro, from about 2007. A friend gave it to me to look at. All that happens when I turn it on, is the apple insignia comes on, then a timer that never ends. HELP!!!
Hello I agree with benwabnick, I would also try to repair disk permissions and volume using the disk utility tool that is on the install DVD (hold the C key to boot from DVD, then choose english language, go to utilities, and choose disk utility).

The drivers for XP are on the official OS X Leopard DVD. Install this when running XP and then run the Apple Drivers Set up on the disk.

I have a Macbook Pro and when trying to connect it via HDMI to a 32 inch Vizio the computer detects the display however when I select the HDMI port on the tv it just gives me a blue screen saying no signal. I have mirroring turned on.
disconnect hdmi cable and shutdown pc, completely power it off. plug your hdmi cable back in to your pc and power it up. it should properly detect your tv. i use projector mode. tv must stay on while performing this procedure.

Hi, I have a white macbook and i seem to have problems with my dvd rom, i can't read any dvd's or cd's. I've tried to use a cd lens cleaner but it won't read it... how can i get it operational again!?
Does the computer immediately return the discs after they're inserted or do you have to manually eject them? If it's trying to read the discs then there could be a problem with the type of disc. However if it just ejects the disc immediately, there could be a recognition problem. So, if your computer doesn't recognize that a disc is in the drive, you can check several things. 1. Check to see that the computer actually reads DVDs. To do this, open the System Profiler in the Utilities folder. Click on ATA/Devices and Volumes/Disc Burning. Those are three different options but each will tell you if the drive actually does run DVDs. If it shows DVDRW or DVD, but if it only shows CD or CD-RW, then it won't play a DVD. 2. If it shows that it accepts DVDs through the System Profiler, then you'll need to check to see if the actual drive is attached. You can open your computer through the battery with a screw driver. Once open, you'll need to check the connecting cable to the drive. If it's attached properly/securely, you may need to take it to a technician. The drive me be malfunctioning and need professional repair.

My wife has a 6 month old iMac. It no longer recognizes any external speakers. I've tried three different sets, so it's not the speakers. The internal speakers work fine. Coincidentally my house was recently hit by a lightening strike which knocked out the ethernet port on my Mac Pro. That computer was in a different room connected to a surge protector and powered by a different outlet. I was wondering if my sound card's the culprit or it's a problem with the operating system after my most recent OS upgrade. The machine is running Leopart 10.5.7.
I had the same problem..... turns out that there is a specific order that you need to plug them in. Disconnect your speakers from usb and from power. Then plug in the Power first. Then plug in the usb connection. They should show up in your sound control panel now.

how to reset master clear all the information on my mac pro to start from scratch???
There are a few ways to do this.
Method 1
Create a new user account, making sure to give the user Admin access. Once you create this new user, log into the new user account and delete the old user. This is the quickest and easiest way(this works best with 10.5, if you're running 10.4 or earlier try method 2.)
Method 2
Take the install disc and reboot your computer with the disk in the drive. On start up, hold the "c" button. Now you can re-install the operating so you can have a clean start. (if you don't have the install dvd, refer to Method 3)
Method 3
Delete all the unnecessary applications, once done create a new user with admin privileges. Log in with this account and delete the old account. This way you won't have any of the programs you don't want and the new user will have factory account settings. As close as you can get to a fresh start.
No matter what method you choose, be sure to back up important information.

I try to video chat but it wont work! this mac desktop has leopard. i'm using an AIM screen name with ichat. This just started to happen with me and my Dad.
If you are using VMware Fusion at the same time that you get the problem then it is Fusion. Check by shutting down Fusion then trying the iChat. If it works fine then it's definitely Fusion that is interrupting it.
With internet sharing off as you describe the next thing is to make sure that it is also not sharing the iSight itself. When fusion is running but not windows itself, check the configuration of your windows bootable in Fusion. (You'll have to excuss me a bit as I havn't used Fusion for a bit since switching over to Parallels) Check to see if the iSight is listed among the USB devices.
If it's not there load up windows and check which devices are connected there from the main Fusion Menu or the little icons on the Fusion Status bar. If it's not, double check by right clicking on MyComputer and choosing properties then go to Device Manager and then looking in there for any USB camera devices. If it is, right click and disable it.
See if any of that helps.
All the best
