Make sure all fans are running power supply one to hehe Maybe a bad power button? I had a gateway that did some thing very close to that because the cpu fan was not turning and a hp that did that because the power supply fan was not turning. Thats where I would start then make sure the mem is seated good and not bad you know the drill ;) if you replaced the power supply with a factory replacment it should be a voltage or wattage problem. Might also try a hard boot the power plug take the cmos bat out hold the power button down for 20 or 30 secs some people say to leave the cmos bat out and try to fire it up. I know that works on some laptops but I always had better luck putting it back in for desktops cant hurt to try it. If you have two ram sticks in it pull the # 2 one and try to fire it up if nothing changes swap the # 2 one with # 1 leaveing slot 2 open and try it that will tell ya if it is a bad ram stick I dunno just my two cents hope it helps

just as simple as some thing got wiggled loose. I would make sure all ram is seated well cpu power plug as well as all the plugs on the mother board and drives are pushed all the way in. Make sure video card and wireless cards are all seated good. If the video card has a cooling fan on it as well make sure the power cord to it did not get wiggled loose. Make sure the the plugs from the power supply to the mother board are plugged in good and tight. But if it was working and you just blew it out has to be some thing loose

almost all gateway have all of your restore to factory default on a drive that is hidden on the hard drive. All company's use a different key to do this but I always start with f5 start the comp and hold f5 down and the system restore program should pop up. If it is not f5 it will just beep at ya. Then just do the same thing over and over starting with f1 all the way to f12 until you find the right one. but I always try f5 and f8 first hope that helps

make sure the hard drive cable is plugged in good and the power button is as well. then unplug the power cord from the supply and take the cmos battery out. before you plug it back in hold the power button in for about 30 seconds. Put the cmos battery back in make sure all of your ram is seated well as well as video and wireless cards. Plug the cord back in and give a shot Might just need a hard boot.

what plugs? All of them? Power supply plugs should be marked as well as different. Hard drive cable gos in the # 1 slot dvd and so on go in slot #2. If the cpu fan is installed some have a power supply plug others plug in to the mother board. Most of the time it will be close to the cpu and only a two prong plug. Most of the time all the of the wires will be marked in small writing on the plug itself and its as simple as getting a flash light and match the plug with the socket on the board that are almost always marked

Instructions
  1. When you press the Power button to start the boot process, the LED lights glow while the computer verifies that there is sufficient electrical power to activate the hardware.

Effect & Solution: When you press the power button, the LED lights on the computer do not glow or the LEDs blink briefly and then stop. There is no sound of the fan or hard drive spinning, and the screen remains blank. The computer will not start if there is insufficient battery or AC adapter power.
  2. The BIOS queries various hardware components used for the startup boot process.

Effect & Solution: When you press the power button, the LEDs glow but there is no fan or hard drive sound. The LEDs may glow briefly and then go out.

    Or

The LED lights blink, stop, and then blink a second or third time, but there is no sound from the computer and the screen remains blank. The sequence of the blinking lights indicates a specific error code.

    Or

A series of beeping tones is heard. The sequence of beeping tones indicate a specific error code.

If a hardware component has recently been replaced, or if the PC has been jarred or shaken, there may be a loose connection to the memory chips or hard drive which prevents the computer from starting.
  3. The BIOS loads the basic input (keyboard) and output (advanced LEDs / display screen / boot drives) devices into memory.

Effect & Solution: When you press the power button, the LEDs glow, the fan or hard drive sounds, are heard, but then the boot process stops and a black screen - with an error message - displays.

The boot check has detected a communication error or conflict with a hardware component that must be corrected.
  4. The BIOS loads the Windows operating system and starts the services that allow low-level control of all of the background operations.

Effect & Solution: When you press the power button, the LEDs glow, the fan or hard drive sounds, are heard, the HP or Compaq Logo displays on a black screen, but then the boot process stops and a blue screen - with an error message - displays.

The boot check has detected a hardware driver error or a software conflict that must be corrected.
  5. Control is transferred to the Windows loader to initiate the display of the advanced settings in the Windows environment.

The Windows logo displays during this step.

Effect & Solution: When you press the power button, the computer performs all the steps in the boot process, but after the Windows Logo displays, the moving Windows progress bar or the rotating cursor stops moving and the boot process stops.

An error message may display on a screen with the Windows logo. In some instances, there is no specific error message.

    Or

A black screen appears and the computer attempts to restart.

The Windows self-check has detected a software conflict that must be corrected.

I'm guessing you asked amore generic question earlier. If you were dusting you've probably inadvertently unplugged one or more hard drives. Make sure all the cables are seated properly and try again. You can turn off the error message by entering the bios and resetting the error message or tuning it off all together.

Gateway GT4016... | Answered on Nov 14, 2013 | 48 views

And what else? If the system just hangs at detecting it's expecting to find an array of hard drives attached to the system. Do you have an array that it can boot to? Does it load the OS finally? Was it working before? Did you make changes to the bios ro the array controller bios?

There are differences, but you should be good either way. For general use, you probably will not notice any differences.

Formatting will not wipe the hard disk clean completely. If you do not intend to install Windows back on the hard disk then use this program -
Wipe Data off Hard Disk with Darik's Boot and Nuke, (DBAN) Create a Darik's Boot and Nuke on CD disc, then boot up the computer with this disc. http://www.dban.org/download
